First Video, Comments would be awesome.
« on: July 18, 2010, 01:41:26 PM »
Hey guys i've been training for about 2 and a half months and decided to put a video up, just to make sure i'm not taking off in the wrong direction. I still had a little bit of filming left to do but I twisted my ankle on one of the last jumps. I'm fine but I just decided to throw it together now. Constructive criticism is welcomed. Thanks for the comments. The video is pretty simple.

I've been working on trying to not be as stiff, you can probably tell it's not quite that great yet, haha.

i liked it man, keep it up. the turn vaults looked nice. but some things you need to improve on
climb ups...dont use your elbows, i know, its like an instinct..
rolls...do NOT roll on your head, its kinda self explanatory..look up ryan doyles roll tutorial heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgPd29MlHpg

other than that, keep training, and having fun  ;D

I think you're doing pretty dang good for only 2 and a half months in. They're right about what needs to be fixed, but you've made good progress.

Nice work for 2 1/2 months. John pretty much covered what's to be worked on.
On an unrelated note, do you happen to run cross country? I saw the shirt but wasn't sure.

Not a bad start man. To help eliminate the stiffness in your movements, try this drill: Approach an obstacle and vault it with as little hesitation as possible. Try to minimize any stuttering or bobbing you may do before the vault (see 0:21-0:22 in your video). Once you're comfortable with that, try linking it to another movement such as precision jump to vault with as little hesitation as possible and so on.

Also, PLEASE do not try any flips or acrobatics of any sort until you can do it safely. Even if you don't have a gym around, at least try finding someone with experience in tumbling or tricking that can help you. Anyways, best of luck and keep on training your heart out.

Good job and good spot. As I watched your video I imagined allot of other movements that would be possible at that place. Keep working hard, that a great area, I look forward to seeing what you come up with there.
It looks like you are on the right track with your training. Improve your balance with cat balances and walking on rails, it will affect all of your parkour. Like someone said don’t hesitate, work on rolls. And your climb up was dirty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwx7BOsb2FM This is the Sarcelles video with the yamakasi. They do 3 climb up drills that I think will help you. It takes allot of strength to do a full muscle up so drill 1 and 2 will help you allot until you can do it. Keep working hard and I look forward to the next video.

Wow it is coming together really well man! One thing that would be beneficial though! Try to work on a two-step wall run instead of just a tac off. I saw you had a bit of trouble getting over that wall near the end, using on one foot to jump off to grab. Try stepping up twice then pushing to grab, it'll make it much easier. Another thing as well, try to work upper strength a bit more so you can climb much easier. Roll needs a bit of work, but still, only 2 and a half months! Don't get too worked up. Just keep that passion man and you will be fine!
