Help with climb ups
« on: June 28, 2010, 03:35:53 PM »
So, i started PK about a year ago, but i've been getting discouraged because of my inability to do a climb up. i'm just looking for advice. are there any specific arm exercises (besides pull ups, im already working on those) that would help? is there a specific form or technique that would help with a climb up? for what it's worth, im a big guy, about 6'1 and 195 lbs. help me out, thanks!
It's not that you can't do it. you just don't know how

you need to work lats and triceps along with your pull ups (and the hand shift is very important)

I no longer see Obstacles. I see Opportunities.

The main workouts for the climb up would have to be the pullup and the dip. Strengthen both of them and make sure to add explosiveness when doing them, especially for the pullup. With a good pull, you can easily do the hand shift (or as I call it, the smack) and transition into "dip mode". It's important to use your feet while doing a climb up, it gives you an extra push when doing the hand shift.

This Demon Drill Video is the typical form you should have when doing the climb up.
