New Hotspot: University of Wyoming
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:30:03 AM »
I'm posting this in Colorado because everyone with Wyoming Parkour already knows about this Hotspot & because Colorado Traceurs NEED to know about this Hotspot!!!

Wyoming Traceurs have been recently coming down to Fort Collins semi-regularly.  Every time they'd come to train with us they'd tell us how the University of Wyoming has a great set up & that we should really come check it out.  I have to been Honest & say the average thought of us in Fort Collins was along the lines of:  "It's an hour plus drive to go where?  Wyoming?  I know these Traceurs say there's cool stuff at UW but it's Wyoming!  I mean really, what is there that's good in Wyoming?"  ;)

We (Fort Collins Traceurs) finally set a date to head up there (last Saturday, the 22nd May) & only 3 of us could make it.  Driving through miles of beautiful wilderness didn't really imporve our outlook on the coming afternoon.  We entered the edge of Laramie, Wyo, stopping at a gas station before hitting UW (I swear I could hear the duelling banjos in the distance as I stepped out of my car).  We were cracking jokes like all Wyo seems to have is Antelope, Rocks & Wind.  (Trust me it has wind!  Could barely get my car door open :D)  Back in the car & down the last few miles to UW.  "Oh Look, there is a Stoplight. No, wait, 2 Stoplights."  As we're starting to pull up on UW campus were seeing a few things here and there so we're thinking "Today won't be a total loss."

Let me tell you straight, don't EVER assume you know anything about anywhere till you've been there.  UW is a Hotspot & a Half!!!  I walked around there going WOW at every turn! We spent at least 3 hours there & didn't see half the spots!  As the WyoPk crew was leading us around campus I kept going  "But what about that over there? Or that?"  I swear we passed by as many cool places as we trained at!  I left there Highly Impressed with my body going Ow! Stop!  but my mind saying just a little longer?!

I definately look forward to going back!  Honestly, there could be a National Jam in Wyoming just between UW Campus & Veedawoo (a local national park about 20mins away from campus thats listed as #2 rock climbing / bouldering spot in the Nation! It Rocks!!!).  If you can only make 1 special Parkour trip this summer, Go to UW in Laramie, Wyoming!  Bring Friends!  You're gonna be shocked!  You can survive the drive (1 hour from Fort Collins, 2 hours from Denver) & the town is bigger then I joked (it has a Walmart, a bunch of hotels & restaurants, & even a small Airport). The Wind is not even that bad!  (Only because you forget about it from all the awesome Parkour!) Thanks again WyPk!!!  I'm planning to make at least 1-2 more trips up there this summer!!!

PS: WyPk Please post some cool pics of the terrain @ UW (& maybe Veedawoo). See You Soon!

Yeah, it's a great place to train, there's a lot to do on every imaginable level of difficulty. I'll see what I can do in the way of pictures (or just get a freaking video uo).

I wanted to go to the jam in Wyoming on the 22nd but that was the day after I graduated from high school and I was too busy to go, I'd love to go up there for any future jams though. Me and some friends have actually been considering heading up to Vedauwoo sometime soon to do some climbing, my friends don't do much parkour, but hopefully I can convince them to go to the University of Wyoming as well if we do end up going to Vedauwoo.

EDIT :: Oh, and in the next week or so, the main news station in Wyoming is going to be doing a segment on us, which should also show some training around the campus. I'll post a vid when I have it. ^^
