American/European parkour "move" name contradictions
« on: October 19, 2006, 10:39:07 PM »
Hey I was wondering if any of yall knew why it is that on parkour.net they call kongs a "cat jump" and they call cat leaps "arm jump"?  It's not exactly a riveting thread but I was just curious if anyone knew why they known as two different things.  Hopefully this isn't too dumb a question to ask.

The French did not want Ez to learn the moves, so they didn't tell him what they were or what they were called.  He watched videos and learned the moves himself and named them himself.  So as a result, the English naems do not correlate to the translations to the French names.

So the names that we use were made up by EZ?

The english names of parkour techniques (not the direct english translations) were terms that become generally accepted in the UK parkour community, largely influenced by EZ and urban freeflow.

Not all of them were created by Ez, but I'll go with what Demon said: "largely influenced by Ez and UFF."

The cat leap for a kong is a more literal translation of the original french term "saut de chat" and the cat leap is called "saut de bras" which means "jump of the arms" or arm jump.
Also the english names were made by kerbie and the sayins back when the sayins were with uff.
They came up with them by watching videos, sort of like what Frosti did, but they spread to a wider audience due to uff's populartiy.
