Insects as Food
« on: May 14, 2010, 05:57:53 PM »
Entomophagy- eating insects. I read that Insects are low on calories high in protein and low in fat. Also they have a lot of nutrients. Maybe I should start eating Crickets or Meal-worms.

Go for it.  Humans in the western world are one of the few sentient species that is revolted by the act of eating insects.  Go to the east and insects are a popular snack and meal item.  If you want to try it then go for it.

Yeah I probably will but Ill wait til summer need some time to prepare everything I got to buy a tank and stuff. And then you have to wait like 20 days for them to mature. Just hope people dont think of me as the weird kid that eats bugs.

They'll think you are werid, no doubt, but if you are doing it for yourself, don't worry about what they think.
What's the point of living if you aren't always trying to exceed yourself everyday?

Well yeah I know that maybe I can start having them as Snacks everyday instead of eating Doritos and Cheetos and junk food. Etc.

lol, this day and age? they say "you're an idiot and should've brought more food"...

i hate the way life is causing things to get "soft"...

like, did you know, the army has naps now?!?!? from 130-300pm is nap time durring basic training. and they have stress cards, so when the drill sergeants are screaming at you, u take the card out of your pocket and throw it at him, he has to leave you alone for 10 mins...

Well The more advanced we get (does not apply to everyone) as a nation or species meaning technology and such we tend to rely on it more and more. I know thats common sense.

Your Loss

I suppose, but oh well =P

Doesn't parkour pretty much defy this?  I think it's kinda cool; in a time where technology is constantly plowing foreward, the most amazing and awe-inspiring ways of transportation require solely the human body.  Fascinating, isn't it?

I hate the way people classify things as "soft" without looking into the reasons behind things....

1:30-3:30 is a natural lull in like 90% of the populations circadian cycle.  If you have ever driven a long distance, this is the most likely time during daylight where you may just pass out behind the wheel and get killed.  As a travelling salesperson, I run into this a LOT -- i never book a long car ride between noon and 4 PM.  That said, these times also make it more difficult to learn and perform.  If you are training to defend a nation then you should be at your sharpest during all points of the day while training -- and thats the goal of the "siesta" you outline (if its even truly in effect).

Chris I understand What your saying but What I think Colby is trying to say is not "soft" but too dependent. Kind of like the movie Wall-E though I doubt it will be bad as that but you get my drift. These are things that are based more on morals and ways a person Is brought up and are very hard to argue with a person. I know being half latino that the men are expected to have a "role'' If you will they need to be strong never show emotion and such. Even though Im sometimes like this not alot though but yeah.

You didn't do anything wrong and I am not attacking you.  My apologies if I made it seem that way.

I just don't understand why people view a siesta as a sign of weakness or laziness.  Sometimes, the more breaks you give people, the more productive they are.  A rested person is a person that performs well.

When it comes to drill sergeants , though, I agree that a "time out" card is probably way off base.  If you can't take a guy screaming in your face you won't be able to take bullets whizzing by it, either, imho...then again i don't serve.  *shrug*
