How can I get the wall run right?
« on: May 14, 2010, 12:29:37 PM »
Im a beginner (and slightly chubby >.<) with no experience at all. I usually try to do a Tic-Tac because of its simplicity, but I dont think I'm doing it correctly. Also, I'm having trouble with the wall run. Instead of moving up the wall, I jump back. Any help???

Lean into the wall, and make sure your foot isn't too high on the wall.

imagine yourself running up the wall...literally.

i actually plant my hands and push myself up the wall. when you're first starting, its normal that your going to push away from the wall, a little bit. just drill it

Don't worry man, my wallruns are the suck too >.>
I stick my butt out all weird and I just need to work on them a lot xD

We just gotta keep working at 'em and soon we'll be pros!
Everything in parkour takes practice and a lot of repitition and a lot of falling on your butt/face to master.  But isn't that all part of the fun?

Approach the wall with large strides. I was having trouble with my wall runs too, but as soon as I started doing this I was able to perform them sucessfully. When you take small steps, your movement lacks the energy to propel yourself vertically up the wall.

OP...i can get 3 steps on a wall vertically and grab a ledge maybe 2-2.5x's my height (5'5")....run at the wall with decent strides not to big or small, you need momentum, the transition is the trick you have to mentally judge how high and the angle at which to jump onto the wall. When your foot (the ball of the foot) makes contact, your body should only semi "hug" the wall...try for a single step or plant at a 45degrees angle upon the wall.,,this will give you optimal speed friction and angle at which to use...dont step on the wall, if your foot is higher than your knee-to-thigh or you won't get the grip or angle you need...after contact push up and out (it helps to roll your foot onto the wall),,,after a while add that second step and work from there.
hope i could help ;)

coming from someone who has been slacking and not training as much as i should i can promise you its about progression.

ive taken months off with inconsistent training in strength and technique, i recently went out again after a few sessions with nothing more than a few pop vaults here and there. i went "the hell with it" and decided to start jamming at a wall i have never come close to getting to the top of.

guess what happened? i didnt get to the top but, my fingers were cleanly wrapped around the edge. dont ask me how, i just had long powerful strides that i measured out and just let my body do what it needed to do. you will eventually get it, maybe just think a little more about visualizing. its not exactly an easy technique.

my mind is constantly moving, one day my body will be strong enough to keep up.

think that was muscle memory my friend ;) it has been a while but its just like riding a bike,,,hell you probly got stronger and more comfortable with yourself then you used to be and just didnt relize it...sometimes the best training is just to sit back and watch.

If you are a beginner, don't start off with wall-runs, vaults, or jumping off of anything. Practice landings, rolls, and conditioning.

Wall-up (or wall run) was the first thing I learned, I can land fine but.... :P I still can't work out my roll.
Just try to follow in my footsteps.....I run up walls :D

i was training yesterday and found that i can do a 2step and 3step 360 wall run, i can also cover about 2meters and a half, +/- a couple inches, using a 2step 360 or a 2 step wall run.,all of this is going horizontal on the wall, i can get about 1-2 meters in height vertically. ;D

I have gotten 4 steps at most.
Longest wallrun is about 7 to 8 feet across and 2 feet up.
Highest wallrun is about 4 to 5 feet up and 3 to 4 feet across.
:D I love Parkour, I can't vault anything above waist height, but that's about it, I am getting good.
Just try to follow in my footsteps.....I run up walls :D

I'm fairly good at wallrunning thanks to Prince of Persia before I even knew what Parkour was. :)
