Dips work out the shoulders, chest, and arms.

He said it as if it were obvious, which I'm going to have to say it was.

If you don't feel a burn in your chest after dips then you should start adding weight.

Or he's not going deep enough.  I see a lot of people think that a dip is just bending your elbows a little.  It's a lot like that dude at the gym who loads the bar with 5 plates, steps out, and bends his knees.  Yeah.  That dude.

I constantly lift, and I can tell you that Dips focus on Triceps.  What I would say is do alot of wide arm push ups.  If you tore your pectoral I say: DO NOT USE WEIGHTS! Weights tear your muscles slightly, and your pectoral may not be ready for that yet.  Pushups, on the other hand, only use your own body weight (obviously) ad do not tear your muscles.

Review: Do pushups to tone your pecs back to how they used to be.  Only after you're positive the pec is back to normal, should you use weights (Benching, Flys, etc)
Do it because you want to

I don't even know where to begin with this one.

This exercise is useless.  Do not do it.  THIS video shows how to properly do dips.

Wow, just wow.

You constantly lift?  At least that makes one of us.

He tore his pec when he was 18 - I wasn't addressing him in particular.  How old are you now, Aero?  By the way, you said you wanted restored to your original level of strength.  That comment is useless because strength is particular to the movement of interest.  You're triceps don't just get universally strong - they get strong at what you train them to do.  If you want to get back to some level of strength then you need to tell us what the goal is.

It's getting really annoying spending time here these days.

Please do. They're both absolutely counter-effective to the purpose of this forum.

Pushups certainly tear your muscles, just like any other sort of movement. The difference is that pushups are usually used for training endurance, whereas (weighted) dips are more of a strength movement (for some).

THIS video shows how to properly do dips.

Wow... I rep my body weight... That boy just did a dip with me on his back. I had to watch it again because I missed if he went down far enough the first time I saw it. Crazy.

My experience: My chest was on fire and felt like my ribs were going to collapse when I first started dips. Mind you, that was when I could barely do one.
