A lot of what holds up a back handspring (BHS) is mental blocks.  Once you get the technique down, they're easy.  Essentially a BHS is just a really quick bridge kick-over.  I would watch a few tutorials on youtube then find someone who can spot you.  It's an easy trick to learn; just takes some time to get comfortable with it.
