Watch what you eat: Lean meats, some carbs ( balance with your activity!! Carbs give you energy, but too much builds up fat), lots of fruits and veggies, and eat ALL THE TIME. Small meals, lots of times a day. Your metabolism will naturally speed up.

And excercise. If you don't want a lot of muscle mass, then use light weights or just body weight. Lots and lots of reps with those. I personally love to do as many reps in as short a time as possible, without stressing my joints and tendons. It works on my muscle explosiveness, ad one right is great cardio!!!

The above information is mostly false.

Depends on where it is located on the body, but I have found running to be the most suitable option. Run at least a mile a day for time and work in wind sprints. You can speed up your weight lose by eating healthier; read the nutritional facts for everything you eat. These exercises will improve your cardiovascular health and speed up your metabolism.

Working your metabolism through intense workouts, and eating all the time, will burn fat and with proper nutrition will build muscle. Carbs do transform into storable body fat, if you don't burn them as you're taking them in. And it just makes sense that intense, hard workouts boost cardio because you're working so hard and fast.

Everyone's body is different, so it works to keep tabs on what you're doing with diet and exercise to check RESULTS. Naturally, if someone needs a higher caloric intake, eat more. If someone finds that they need more carbs than someone else, then by all means go up!

Works for me ^_^ I feel great and dropped twenty pounds in a year, from a chubby 180 to a slim, fit 160. I've gained a couple of pounds back from my low, which was 155. And i can tell its from muscle.

Your advice on carbs isn't wrong. Your advice recommending light weights and explosiveness is wrong. That and recommending small meals throughout the day really doesn't matter as much as you think.

While I'm glad you quote sources, they're not respectable studies and as such don't carry any weight.  The one about eating constantly isn't based on any science.  The guy just ate less than he burned.

HIIT is the most effective way to burn fat off, yes, but it isn't necessarily because of the cardiovascular improvements.

You're ignorant about how nutrition and metabolism works.  Any excess of proteins, fats, or carbs will be turned into fat.  The body burns carbs first and fats second (by converting fat into a glucose-like substance).  So it isn't so much about eating less carbs, it is just about eating less in general.

Everyone is different, but the same golden rule applies to everyone.  Eat less than you burn and you will lose fat.

Again, you ate less than you spent.  A good ruler to use is to consider 1 pound of fat/week is a moderate cutback (500 calories/day, 3500 calories in a pound of fat).  That means if you keep strong on this sort of diet you can burn 4 pounds/month, and 52 pounds/year.  So your diet wasn't as effective as it could of been.

Greetings, helpful people of the APK Forums! I thank you for your aid in the past few months. I am now slimmer, stronger, faster etc. I haven't really worked out a workout schedule yet but plan on doing so soon. I am open to ideas and further suggestions on healthy foods that are cheap enough the I can actually afford. My family can barely keep enough food in the house as it is, and I want us all to eat better.

Eat real foods

If your grandma can't recognize (back in the '50s it don't eat it)
If it's processed don't eat it
If it has more than 2-3 ingredients don't eat it

Plants (vegetables, fruits, seeds and herbs) and animals [with the fat] (meat, fish, fowl, and eggs) should represent the entire composition of your diet.

Steve, what are your thoughts on insulin sensitivity and spiking insulin levels then? Cutting out as many carbs as possible will keep your insulin low constantly throughout the day. Fine for losing weight but muscle mass will also suffer without any spikes to bring nutrients into them quickly.

Spiking insulin doesn't matter too much if it's from healthy foods (like potatoes, etc.). The body can handle that fairly well.

If you eat excessive processed food stuff like soda, candy, etc that's when the body starts having issues because of the absurd amounts of fructose and vegetable/seed oils.

Muscle mass does not suffer from either a lower or high carb diet. You just need adequate protein and adequate calories.

And yes, generally low carb is better for losing weight.

You do need the protein but spiking insulin post-workout with carbs and protein will start recovery more quickly than just carbs or just protein. If you don't get the protein in quickly then breakdown will continue much longer.

It's not that significant.... you can wait 3 hrs and it still does fine.

Also, whole milk outperforms skim milk and isocaloric skim milk so..... carbs +protein+fat is better than carbs + protein in some cases

The thing with pre and post workout nutrition is that it MAYBE helps like 2-3% max with a couple more percentages with supplementation whiel the majority of the benefits are coming from proper nutrition, sleep, training program, decreasing stress levels, etc.

Steven, from this and other posts by you, you say Whole chocolate milk outperforms most supplements in terms of weight training.

How so exactly?

Dropping prossesed sugars and exersizing will do wonders. I dropped ten pounds fast just with these two. Trust me you will crave junk like nothing else while you are doing this but if you limit yourself to one small treat a week it will help. Eventualy you will find things will get too sweet and taste gross if you stick with it
