Erie Parkour
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:21:45 PM »
Members:
Okay, so as I'd told you on the phone, Mike had to take a job out-of-state and the server for the site went belly-up.
For now, we can use this topic to catch up, talk about what to do for a new site, and maybe having an active topic here will get others to notice the group.

Also, due to the death of our site, we have no way to connect with the other members, like Chimmy and Leo (not that he'd posted very recently before everything died).

Non-Members Living In Or Around Erie, PA:
Hey there! Living in the black-spot-on-the-map known as Erie, PA can be irritating. Been looking for other traceurs and/or freerunners to condition, practice, or hang out with? WELL, HERE WE ARE!
Most of the current members don't meet pretty much at all, but some of us can, so just adding yourself to the group adds to the possibility of getting together.

Anyway... I guess I'll start.
Uh, well, as some of you remember, I was conditioning pretty well. Wellll... I dropped off a cliff. Metaphorically. However, I was doing a little running, which I felt pretty good doing, and I made some gains in endurance. I'll probably start up with both, again, soon. Pat found a goal, so he wants me to get him into conditioning. That'll give me a kick-start, too.

Great, found this, haha. Of course, this is Josh.
I actually just joined the site after you called me, I never got around to making an account on here before today. >.<
I few friends of mine are getting into tricking, so I'm going to start that over the spring and summer as well as this, and track, and cross country, and guitar... I'm going to be very busy.

Well, it's all in the name of good health, and fun. Plus, parkour is useful in real life, so that's an added bonus. Hopefully, we can start getting people together, more than before at least, haha.

Hahah. Well, I kind of think it's a good thing to have an account here. There's so much knowledge on APK.

Anyway, yeah, wow. Very busy, indeed. Pat and I have quite a bit to do, this year, too. Though, a bit of it is not so fun. Y'know, getting our driver's licenses, getting jobs... "Grown up" crap that the world refuses to let us enjoy life without.

Speaking of tricking, Pat found a nice Irish tutorial to a Butterfly Kick. Balls awesome. Like, I had no idea it'd be that easy, but I hardly put any force into when I tried it and got a ton of lift.
Too bad I won't focus much attention on tricks and flips. I'm a full-on utilitarian parkour man, myself.

Haha, I'm getting into the "grown up" stuff too. For my parents to let me get my license, they're making me get a job and help pay for insurance.

Probably is good that I have an account on here, there is a lot of knowledge and such that I can use. I've looked on the website before, just to lazy to make an account.

Yeah. Well, if you've tried to get a job in the last few years--which I'd guess you haven't--it's pretty retarded. Especially for those of us in the boonies. Get your license, so you can get a job, so you can pay for your gas, and probably buy another car before the first one breaks down. Sigh.

Meh. If nothing else, it's a pretty good fall-back site if, say, your site explodes and you need a new place to talk.

Anyway, not that everyone's here or anything, but... There are... three options we have on what to do for a new site.
We can stay here.
We can open up just a forum, since that's mainly what we used.
Or we can start a new site, and Mike said he's willing to back up what he had of the last one.
Using just a forum is... probably easier, and again, we pretty much only use the forum on our site. But it looks less professional, and we can't do too much with it, as far as explaining things to readers; whereas on a nice site we could.
Just taking opinions. Seeing where everyones' heads are at.

Yea, my dad just replaced our dying car about a week ago >.<

Staying here for now is the easiest thing to do, and more people might notice this sooner or later, rather than finding a new site.
Opening a site or forum where we'd only have 3 people or so doesn't seem like the smartest thing, so I think we can wait for that.

Just my opinion for now, things will probably change.

Okay, yeah. That's a good point. Pat said something along the same lines, though leaned toward having just a forum for us. He said... uh... "We don't have to worry about looking professional and stuff until we're a bit better at parkour." So, okay.
However, if you had to say forum or site, which would you choose? Just 'cause we're gonna need to choose eventually, and the more notice, the better.

I wish I could say I've been furthering my parkour skills and abilities, but... I really haven't.
Closest thing was that I noticed my reaction time and decision-making are boosted. Like, I can jump into a situation where I could help, much faster than ever.

Well, I think in the long run, a site would be much more effective.

I'm still running track, which is kind of helping with parkour. I think. I've gotten a bit better at jumping (I can touch the net of a basketball hope now, lol. >.<) and at wall running (also practiced on a basketball hoop at school). I had my weight taken, along with my body fat and BMI. They're all pretty good, my body fat is below average by half a percent. Still a healthy spot to be though.

Need to start getting outside more, and doing some actual parkour.

Okay. Thanks.

Yeah, that's good. Running is one of the staples of Parkour. Bipedal, Quadrupedal, Climbing and Jumping.
Though, you may want to do some weight-resistance conditioning, too. I was, and will again, sometime. It really helps. You feel less impact, when you land, because you can absorb the shock. And for people like me, you tend to really need the extra power to get yourself into the air.
Though, I've found out you need to learn management of that strength, too. I have problems compacting my kicks in Tae Kwon Do.

Well, I'm glad it's getting nice out. I'm going to try putting together some precision targets, at least. Argh, rural.
Argh, lack of really good inspiration.

Cool.
Yeah, we definitely are looking for more people. The only thing is that we're pretty spread apart, and some of us can't get into town regularly. You're more than welcome to stick it out with us. Maybe you could meet with Josh(kojira), since he lives in Erie.
Also, don't worry about being fresh. We're not that experienced, either.

Note: I'm back on with my conditioning.

Nice to meet you Ronnie, as Robert said, I live in Erie.

I have done some resistance training, with a harness and a hill at track. It does help, but we don't do a lot of it.
Also, I'm going to a track invitational on Saturday. Have to be on the bus at 6:15 AM >.< Running in the 800 meter race, so It'll be sprinting, which I'm not used to.

Also, I want to try to get some conditioning or training done on my spring break, which starts Saturday. I hope it gets nice out, since it was snowing a few minutes ago...

Hahah. To tell the truth, I really didn't do much that was notable in High School.
How old are you, then?

Oh, uh, another member, Pat, and I live on the outskirts of Springboro, south-west of Erie. About a half hour out, by car. Which is why we don't get into the city often.

Ah. Okay. Well, I'm 20. I think I'm actually the oldest, to the day, of everyone in the group. 21 in August.

Really, there's only so much I can say, right now. Pat should be joining, sooner than later, so there'll be more to talk about.

Well, I'm the youngest in the group, at 16. 17 in September.

Haha, at my track meet I only ran one event, the 2 mile. So, I figured I had about 6 hours of nothing, so I ate food and such... the run didn't end up to great. Since it was an invitational, I'm still glad I got to go, but I wish I did better. I'm better at the 1 mile run, and I'm not much of a sprinter, so the 800 would probably be the shortest event I'd ever run in. I also run cross country, where the races are 3.1 miles.

I'm in Erie, in the city. Not to far from Central Tech, which is who I run for. But, I go to high school at Collegiate.

HEY GUYS. <_<;

So, I'm finally here. Just got back from Anime Boston yesturday, and I finally remembered to join APK and get people posting. For you new people; I'm Patrick, I was one of the members on our old site, 20 years old, single. -Tooth shine.- Just kidding. >_>; Anyway, I'm still fairly new to parkour, but I've picked up a few things since I've started. I'm a brown belt in Taekwondo, and that has helped in the explosiveness aspect of jumping and such. Also-! I'm vice con head of Erie Anime Experience, come to our con! -Shameless plug here.-

For the old members, which is pretty much only Josh at this point, I have motivation! I've decided to cosplay Yun-Seong from Soul Calibur at some point, and doing this means I need to condition, so I will be working out a lot more often to reach this goal. Just tried one of those 'plank' exercises today. Man, you really feel that after about 30 seconds. o_o;

In other news, I'm going to start driving soon, so we can meet up with people more often. I found out a couple weeks ago that there's an outdoor skate park somewhere in Erie. I can't find the address now. ee; But I'm gonna see if we can check it out next tuesday. Might make a good spot for Parkour if it's got any ledges or rails.

Oh, and I'll bring up this idea, too. You know how Celerity park is being built, yeah? They need six thousand dollars, and said something about if every member of APK gave fifty cents, they'd have too much? I wonder if we could rally APK members to donate towards new parks in other areas around the country. Not all at once, of course, but if everyone pooled their money together, even just 50 cents, we could have one park being built every year somewhere in America, including one in Erie or at least close by. O_o Discuss.

Hey there guys. Finally found where all of you went.

Sorry about the lack of posting, been dealing with some stuff lately, but it's getting straightened out.

Let me know if there is anything planned.

Ah, hi, uhm... Leo (You are Leo, right?). Yeah, sorry, we didn't get your contacts before the board went down, otherwise, I'd've called you. If you wanna PM your phone number to me or Pat, we'll make sure that doesn't happen again. Good to hear from you again.

Speaking of: You live in town, right? If so, you could talk to Josh (kojira) and Ronnie (RAWknee04), and set up a meeting.
