high glucose foods?
« on: March 19, 2010, 06:56:08 AM »
im trying to find a few good sources of high glucose foods/ drinks to spike my insolin post workout.  i have been eating apples and other fruits before i drink whole milk and whey, but i found out fruits are actually high in fructose which is a slower metabolising carb if im not mistaken.

Why don't you just supplement with maltodexterin like the bodybuilders do?

I can only imagine you're trying to stimulate an insulin response to put on weight.

yes i will be using it as a post workout meal to gain weight and speed up recovery.  i didn't know about maltodexterin until now, but after some reserch it seems like a good way to go as long as it doesn't cost a ton.  i'll look again and see if i can't find some    thanks!
edit: i found something called now carbo lol  but the ingredients are 100% maltodexterin from corn  http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/carbo.html
sound good?

Just drink whole milk...

It beats out most things except highly specialized mixes which cost too much

i do. my current post workout shake is 3 and 1/2 cups of whole milk 23g. of whey sometimes a raw egg and an apple   but i found out that the cabs in apples are fructose which is a slower digesting sugar than glucose and moltodextrin.    do you know what the predominate carbs are in whole milk?

what i am going for now is a 2 to 1 ratio of carbs to protien with a 50/50 ratio of whey protein to casein and the fastest absorbing carbs which i thought was glucose, but i might go with maltodextrin now.

You're not going to see any significant differences over what you are doing now if any at all.

definitely not, but it doesn't hurt and it might actually save some money in the long run at 8lbs for only $16 not to mention i could just put it all in the shake together at take it with me a little easier.  thanks for the help everyone!
