Okay, so yesterday, after i waited and waited for months on end for the snow and ice to melt, i finally successfully did a kong vault, & was so pleased withmyself i did this for about two hours, along with monkey vaults. Now, when i woke up, my arms hurt, my palms hurt, my neck hurts, my shoulders hurt, and most importantly, MY ASS HURTS of all the places why would that hurt? i just feel sore all over, hips too. maybe it's cause i didn't condition? i know it wont hurt as i do it more and more but my gosh, what a sore morning.

Wrist/arms sore come from improper conditioning of shoulders, specifically the trapezius, shoulder stablizers. The sore hips ect and but comes from just jumping. your butt muscles do majority of your jumping motion, if i remember right it's 60%.....i'm going to get torn apart for putting up a percentage. Hips are from stabilizing your hips during single leg take off....being sore is a good thing, it means that your body is working right but at the same time it's bad that you didn't condition.

Well, I can explain just about everything ... but as for why your ass hurts, this isn't THAT kind of forum.

Adapt to the gym? I think you mean you adapted to the workouts that you have done. Might mean that you aren't pushing yourself hard enough.

When you are saying stuff hurts, is some of that joint hurting or just muscle soreness?

I know what you mean after not training in a while you can hurt in places that you didn't even know that you had.  :(
Konging low stuff is stupid. Just jump over it. Or just do a cool flip over it.

Lawlz at M2's ass joke.

You're sore because you've never done the kong before (or at least not very much). Because you've never done them before, your body started using muscles it ways that its never done before. So in general, yes you were underconditioned.

Congrats on the kong!

Yes, my point exactly, in the gym you "adapt" very quickly because of the isolation and single-planality (can that be a term?) of the exercises. When you start to do movements that are unconfined in such ways you can stay sore forever :)

I don't know if that's necessarily true, Mark.  I got into competitive powerlifting a little while ago and have maxed at a 345 squat, 225 bench, and 405 deadlift at 150lbs... and I very rarely get sore from work-outs anymore unless there's a prolonged eccentric phase to an exercise or it's a movement that I'm not typically used to (as in.. specific exercise).  I can squat 300lbs over and over and it doesn't really affect me.

Soreness, in the beginning, can be an indication of progress, but I don't like to use it because it puts people into a certain mindset: to get a good work-out, you HAVE to get sore.  That's not true at all.  When we're talking about getting stronger, there isn't an obligation to become sore.. as training age increases, the likelihood of experiencing soreness with the big compound "indicator" lifts decreases substantially.

On the other hand, I have no clue about the adaptations to local muscular endurance conditioning..  My experience with training to be enduring is significantly less than my experience with training for raw strength.  But I imagine that since the goal is predominantly to push the lactic threshold, tear down muscle tissue, etc. etc.. that soreness can be ongoing for quite some time.  I'll have to experiment with that as I get more into conditioning for combat sports.

..k.. that was really long, sorry.  My only point is that soreness doesn't always equate to a better work-out.

ya I come from a heavy weightlifting background as well and you generally don't get sore unless you stop for a week or something. Like when you skip legs for a week or 2, when you come back they're sore as hell for a whole week, but then after that they don't get sore in the consecutive workouts. It's an adaptation of the body, when it realizes you're gonna be beating it up everyday.

Also, you're going to want to remember to stretch before and after training for long periods of time, ESPECIALLY if you've been down and out for a long time.

Sorry for this great wall of text..

Well, as I do more I'm starting to feel less sore, the only notable sore parts now are my calves. I ran so much today, in weights it was exercise day & we all had teams of 3, which i was with my only 2 friends in there.com well after a full period of running everyone was tired, but knowing me, i'm always ready for more running. teach said all teams were gonna race around the gym, on each east & west side of the gym there's staircases that leads up to a higher platform & back down & it goes all the way around. our team mates were to take turns running & when they made their lap they tag you rthen you go, & so in. Well, first was my general fit for running friend, h went around (mind you we're racing with 3 other teams, equaling 12 people total) so he goes around, comes back in third, second to last... next is me, he tags  me, & i just bolt it, i hop up the stairs, skipping like 5 steps, immediately pass 1 of the 2 guys infront of me. as we make our way around, i do the same thing on the nesxt set of stairs, pass the last guy, noe it's all freedom. Ahead of me was a chair, i thought of dashing it immediately , but it was far too short, so i just hopped it, & everyones all like geezes 0.0 it was rather funny, if it were bigger i woulda dashed it :/ but yeah our team won, friends saying i ran like a horse & such :/ just made me feel good.

Sorry for the long, i just felt like sharing. usually in the park when i'm practicing kongs & someone comes by on their bike or skateboard or what ever, i try to make myself known thinking maybe if one of those people saw this stuff, it would give them some sort of perspective on what i'm doing. It's happened twice... only with little kids :p I'm konging & they asked how i do that, i simply reply practice, & move on. Though, it doens't really help with showing them some interesting stuff if you monkey a chainlinked fence, not knowing the grass is slippery, & you land... & slip on your back side... then you suddenly hear girls going oooooooowwww, which you had no idea anyone was watching >:( how utterly humiliating. doesn't bother me though, i'm married :0 & 18 i see a lot of skateboarders, & when i do, i get motivated to show them an art, that is - parkour. I know i'm a newbie & arent very good, but i definately have the potential. my whole life, after every running type exercise i did in school, i always had so much more energy, & i wanted to use that by climbing things & jumping, thus, parkour came into my vision, & that very second, i knre it was exactly what i've been searching for to use up all this extra energy.

Sorry for life story :/
