Underbar (feet first)
« on: September 12, 2006, 11:25:22 AM »
I tried multiple times to underbar feet first, but kept bailing.  I know my body isn't used to going through the minute movements.  I plan on going through the movements slowly and increasing the pace over time.  I wrote this just to ask if anybody can offer some advice. THX

just keep working on it and make sure you pay attention to were your hands are on the bar. when i was learning underbars i was putting my hands to close together. keep them shoulder width aparrt and grab the bar right after your feet go through. watch some videos with underbars in them and watch them carefully and youll get them in no time. good luck and train hard.

Try thinking of it like a playground swing.  You want to create a similar kind of arm.  I pull on the bar like I did on those chains when I was little, creating an upward arc for my feet go through before they arc back downward for the land.

I'm still too scared to try underbars, I just hop over for now... too scared of slamming my chin on it... but maybe I'll give it a shot sometime.

try doing it on rails that are really wide apart and then gradually working your way up to smaller and smaller gaps--that's what helped me to get them down

Or try the ducttape trick.

Find something that has a study horizontal bar between two vertical bars that's a good height. Bring a roll of duct tape, and make your own second, lower "bar."  When you're comfortable with the gap, you can move the "bar" up and up and up!
