2010 Monstrous Minnesota Jam planning
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:55:54 AM »
Hey everyone, Chad posted in the Meetup forum that there's the:
2010 Monstrous Minnesota Jam, Aug 21-22

and we're hosting it.  My guess is that it will be less anxious than last year, since we have already had the "campus security" discussions.  Besides, they only seem to have staff to deal with the zombie problem.

Some natural subjects:
Places for people to sleep/stay
Barbecue (venue, menu, cooks, activities)
Raffle/prizes
Marketing and awareness
T-shirts

In our midst, we have not one, but two advertising/marketing professionals now, of which I am aware.  I do hope they feel up to stepping in and providing a little volunteer spirit.  I think with their involvement, we can easily attract larger numbers.

I'm up for cooking again.
I'm able to host a few guests, and there's bus service to downtown.

I think we should have a t-shirt for the event, something that celebrates what we have become in the last year, something that reminds people what Minnesota has contributed to the Parkour community.  Our trademark activity is definitely a game of "ground is lava," and last Wednesday, I learned a vault which apparently someone local invented.  This should definitely be its own thread.

Carcass, I do hope you are up for contributing some Parkour art this year?  That was really special, and I know a lot of folks simply don't own display artwork, so it may be pretty exciting to have something that celebrates the culture.

The event is six months away.  Let's see what we can do!

Vexar,

I'll see what I can do about an artistic prize and perhaps start making some sweet graphics to advertise the jam.  I'll post them when I get them completed.

I was also thinking that the Jam would also be a really cool place to have the debut viewing of Iron Run.  I think a lot of people would really enjoy seeing it and that some of the people in the documentary that were filmed will probably be there again for the jam.  As for the project itself.  I am presently in the editing phase and so far it looks pretty solid.  I have a lot more work to do and for me to upload the first set of tapes it took me over 7 hours.  I'll keep you all notified about the documentary's progress in the Iron Run discussion.

I'm excited for the jam, thanks for all the hard work guys and I'll do my best to help you out too.

Carcass:
definitely, Iron Run should be debuted during the jam weekend, that's a great idea, and a deadline is a good idea for any artist.  I do hope someone will supply you a video of the Casper Vault being done, since that was made here.  You did the last logo, right?

Will: Feel free to add your ideas here.

I persuaded my parents to let me host a two or three guys, but they want them to all be under 18 (don't ask the best I could do.)

What do you mean?  I could get my parents to do that...Do you mean letting someone like stay at your house?

Ok lol I could do that...My parents just said I could have one person under 18 as well.  Why would anyone that young travel?  Or am i underestimating how many people come?

Well, I went to my first national jam when I was 17 or 18.  Drove there with one other guy.  There will be people of all ages there.  Anywhere from late teens to, how old are you Vex?  27? ;)

I love U, Skinny.
As for people of all ages going, my 12-year-old and 10-year-old will definitely be going.  It is my hope to bring another "27-year-old" with me.  I think we should talk Manuel into bringing his father again, he is 46.

My guess is if anyone under 18 is going to be traveling far enough to need a place to stay, they will probably be coming with an adult and will all want to stay in the same place.

god i need to check the forums more.. :) well i am going to try not to be a flaky mother and actually not have a conflict with the mn jams this year, though as i'm going "off" to college in the fall (U of M!) i know i'll be road/bike tripping around this summer so we'll see how this all pans out. I'm really eager to see how the MN community has grown, especially since all that i saw of it was 3(?) of us who showed up to tour around with Zac Cohn last year.

looking forward to it!

Ok, to try and clear up this mess, the first day (which i missed) had more than 3 people.  However, the 2nd and 3rd day, I attended and there were only me Zac and Ryan.  The 2nd day we went to the Taste of Minnesota and saw REO Speedwagon.  Good day

WHAT?! Then change your plans!  There is not excuse to not come (unless you're on a honeymoon)
