yo, u used to be lk kinda good at vaults but thenj winter came and i took a huge step back >.< im in the same boat as u now
Guess it's a good/ bad thing I started in the winter. Good because it gave me plenty of time to condition, but bad because my progression was slower due to the lack of formal training.

Another you could do and in my opinion would make you a much better traceur would be to stop following all these certain and specific moves. Instead concentrate on natural movements, techniques that are not specifc, movements that adjust accordingly to the environment, speed, level of fatigue, and other aspects. You will discover that the movements while they are not gonna be the pretty things your friends and fellow practitioners are doing, they will be much more effective and will feel more natural to you.

Where do you draw the line between correct form and improvised natural movements?

I practiced kong-ing a waist-high table with a big folded duvet on top so I don't get hurt... I can do it, but my feet come a bit to the right, not between the arms... kinda like a diving two-handed vault. It feels more comfortable like this because the first vault I learned was the speed vault. I'll fix it when I find a suitable obstacle that is outside (the table is not very stable, and i don't have much running space indoors, to get momentum).

In my opinion, there is no better training tool than a picnic table to learn all of the basic vaults. When I first started out I learned every single vault on the picnic table and then just progressed from there to harder surfaces. And picnic tables are so common that anyone on this forum could easily find one to practice on. Trust me doing any kind of vault over a picnic table is a cakewalk after you do it once or twice to build your confidence.

yo, i used to do the same thing cuz i had been doing speed vaults over EVERYTHING since i was lk 5, before i knew what pk was.
i fixed tht problem a little bit, but now when i finish my kongs, if there is any drop thats an extra 3 feet or more, my feet come off to the side again D:  wth!!

but ill fix it eventually

For speed vaults try doing the vault but tap your outside leg on obstacle and bring the other leg through. Then keep doing it faster and faster then the next thing you know, you've done a speed vault.
LOL this is a bit off-topic but two days ago I tried doing a speed vault and slammed my left knee against the wooden rail. Did not feel good.
I got ballsy and tried toing a really speedy speed vault.
Fecteau, you are the first person I will turn to when I break up with Micah, haha
;)
Fect, you get a gold star for the day.

OUCH! That happened to me once too, I was practicing speed vaults onto my trampoline and my knee didn't gohigh enough that it slammed into the rail. My knee was in good pain for the next couple of hours.

To be honest everything should have correct form whether improvised movements, or generic, I was mostly making a point as to not to force a certain move to a certain situation but stay open to any kind of movement. One example that seems to be really popular is the cat pass (kong) or dash on picnic tables, even though it would be faster and easier to jump and run on top of the table, most times if you miss your step and come to the table with the opposite foot you wont be able to kong or dash and it will most likely lead the person to stop in their tracks.

ouch >.< that sounds pretty bad too

i did that once too.
there was this fallen tree in the middle of my park and it was HUGE and every thing in my brain was yelling "PARKOUR PARKOUR PARKOUR YES!!!!"

this thing was gorgeous, really you should have seen it before they took it away from me >.<

but yea, i was working on my speed vaults and the ground was kinda wet so i slipped just a little bit but it took so much of my momentum away that i didn't have enough hight so i cut up my knee and the cut was lk a half inch deep.
i wrapped it and walked home after i did my cat balances on the tree branches

I'm also trying to learn vaults and rolls to begin. Anybody have any videos that properly show how to vault? I need visuals to learn, so I would really appreciate it if anybody could recommend some videos to watch (:

Thanks, I'll have to check them out. I'm starting to get the rolls down, so I figured I need to learning the basic vaulting techniques now.
