Your Favorite Excercise
« on: September 09, 2006, 09:53:03 AM »
I couldn't decide where to put this so bare with me.

I'm fairly new to both parkour and this particular site, but since stumbling upon both a week or so ago all i've done was read and research. Now i've begun basics and the such but my bodyweight:strength ratio isn't quite up to par so i've begun physical training. I've made a general excercise routine but it'd be nice to get some input on effective/favorite excercises from some people with experiance. My favorite is the muscle-up. Thanks for reading and sorry if this isn't quite in the right place.

dips, pullups, rows, handstand pushups, planche progressions and pushups and front lever progressions and pullups. Those are all good. Also, if you can do some oly lifts like snatches, power cleans, clean and jerks, etc. In fact, Jesse made a good post with DBs on the front page a few days ago.

My favorite excercise is calf raises.  You can really feel it working which is why I like it.

I really like wide pulldowns for my lats, but my favorite bodyweight exercise would probably be a one handed pushup.

For single exercises, I'd have to go with max-effort snatches or clean & jerks. For something along the lines of Dan John's "One Hard Thing" I love the weight-vest/sled dragging/BFR* carry for distance and/or time. Second on the list would be sandbag carries, followed closely by throwing anything heavy.

*BFR= Big F**king Rock. Patent Pending.

mine would have to be upside down pullups. you basically grab the pullup bar/tree branch and lift your legs over you and under the bar and then do as many as you can and then let go and flip down. there fun and a challenge.

I think I gotta go with either Quadrapedal Movement or the Front Plank, because either one of them done right can make most of your muscles burn.

I just discovered a new yoga-type excersize called Chataranga (I have no idea if I spelled that right) which is great cause I can go into it straight from front plank and work it into my sun-salutation (my dads been teaching me yoga).  Its up there with front plank.

I would have to say puchups/leg raises, pull ups, lunges, and quadrapedal movement. I was also surprised because most of the good exercises listed on this site, I mainly do in foobtall. :o So that's a plus, I do them in practice, and at home so conditioning should go well for me. :P

Oh, can't forget sprints and hills. (Yeah, you guessed it, you sprint up a hill over and over).

I enjoy going to a gym and doing something no one's ever seen before like jumping into dips with my legs up against my chest from a few feet away.

Chatauranga.  Although it kind of gets lost in translation.  The second part is dundasana.  Asana means pose essentially.  Also called sarbundunday in a northern state of india called the Punjab.  It is derived from the Surya Namaskar, (surya means sun).  I'm not sure what type of yoga that your are doing but my guesses would be Hatha, or Kundalini.  PM me with details.

That's great news Sat!  How did you work your way up to it?
I hope to have one by end of year.
Today I did 15 with 40# assist in 10 minutes.

I dunno how.  I am just recovering from an injury that had me out for 3 weeks and then I just started doing pullups and then today I was like I'm gonna do this and I did.  Pretty lame it would have been cooler if a montage had been involved.
