I have been thinking of getting a tattoo when I turn 18 (in 2 1/2 months). I have been contemplating this for a good 3 years now and Im still not entirely sure about it. If I do get one I would probably get a tribal phoenix (has personal meaning to me) on either my deltoid or scapula area. I think what I might do is get a henna tattoo of it first to make sure I like it then get the real thing.
What do you all think of this? Any advice or comments?

These are some of the designs I was thinking of. (note these are not my images, they are property of the original designers)

Well you say you have been contemplating this for 3 years? I say just get it if you've been thinking about for that long. Choose the design that you like the most. Since I'm on my phone I can't re the pictures you posted. Possibly tomorrow I will be able to look at them. But choose what design who like best, or design your own. :) I'm not sure if I helped or not. I have a tattoo myself and plan to get more.

I got them from just searching on google images. I've been looking at different stuff for like 3 years, so these are the 5 that I have narrowed it down to. If you are using google chrome you can right click, open image in new tab. This will give you the website and you can go from there. If your looking for designs I have found deviantart.com to have a lot of good stuff.

Thats why I am waiting till I'm 18. I move out like 1 1/2 months later so it shouldn't be too difficult to hide it from her for that long. I've wanted to get piercings and all of that but she has told me that if I do I won't have a place to sleep at night. So 1 1/2 months of hiding a tattoo isn't that bad...my friend hid his for 2 years before his mom found out about it, so theoretically I should have no problem.

DeviantART is one of my favorite websites ever. I'm on it! :) I have two accounts. DeviantART is a great source to look at tattoo designs. :) I look around for ideas since I'm designing tattoos for some of my friends. One of the designs is parkour related. I better get on that too, I gotta practice my tribal.

Tribal stuff is maaaad overdone.

Don't get something you think is cool now. That's a dumb reason to get a tattoo. Get something that really truly means something deeply to you. That's why I have my Vitruvian Man tattoo on my back. Human perfection something I strive to obtain. Bottom line: Only get a tattoo if you can with 100% percent certainty say you would not mind having everyone you know and love see that thing marked on you every day until the day you die.

I know if I get it, I will get a phoenix, it has a deep personal meaning to me. The only reason I want it in a tribal design is in like 40 years all the color won't be all faded and crap...I mean it will but it will all be the same color and won't look like crap on a cracker. Plus it will be a lot easier and cheaper to get redone. That and I've always been a fan of tribal designs...I don't care if they are over done, I will be making a custom design roughly based off of one of the above ones, so I will be the only person with it!

It's getting to the point nowadays where the counterculture thing to do is not get a tattoo. I know that's a broad and probably incorrect statement, but seriously, SO many people have them now. It's almost like "What? You don't have one? That's strange, then how can you feel strongly about anything?"

I'm not against tattooing at all though, if you want one or a dozen go for it. I personally liked the 5th design because of the symmetry and it would fit well on your proposed skin area.

...ive actaully only met two people with tattoos so it isnt as wide spread as you might think maybe its different in some areas and stuff though, anyways i would only consider getting one tattoo though and it would have to be something custom so its not it will be like everybody having the same one

IMO, all different kinds of tattoos are overdone. Koi fish, dragons, animals, stars, skulls, tribal, etc etc. I'm not saying everyone is a fan of certain styles of tattoos, like myself I don't case for brutal tattoos, zombies and such, only on a rare occasion I will like one. But as pointed out before get something that has a great and deep meaning to you, in this case a phoenix. I personally am for custom designs. But its your choice on what you want. My next tattoo is going to be a quote from Danny Kaye. That quote has a deep personal meaning to me. I will post it when I get a chance.

You could say that. Depends on how the artist does it. *shrug*

Art class doesn't mean anything unless you plan on getting a degree in art. Each person has the ability to be a artist, this is the same with parkour. There are plenty of artists out there that do just patterns and shapes and what not but they are still artists. :)
