Brilliant link. Tolle and Sakyamuni Buddha are my two primary sources in my meditation.

Wow, that article was amazing. After I get ready for bed tonight, I'm definately trying this all out. It just sounds amazing to have the raised awareness and internal quietness that meditation gives you.

Well the thing is, the human body is really upposed to go through the sleep wake cycle like this:

Go to bed at midnight
Wake up at 8:00am

Stay awake for 16 hours.

Repeat.

But due to the way the world works now, we have to f#ck with the internal clock in order to meet the requirements of our daily lives.
Do it because you want to

Glad the article was helpful. I hope it works for you!

Chris, for some reason the last two posts reminded me of this comic.  ;)

No. :)

Your best bet is to skim for meaning and to get the gist of it in "like five min," and then to re-read it more fully for meaning when you have more time.

This is bullshit.

Agreed, the fact that specific times are used is not applicable when it comes to the human sleep cycle.  I think a closer generalization would be along the lines of: Sun sets, activity slows, fall asleep, sun begins to rise, wake up.

Our abstraction of the day into hours/minutes/seconds contributes to sleep problems, we sleep better with the cycle of day/night, because we evolved through time that way.  "Hard" wake up times are no good when compared to letting the rising sun wake you.

But to be honest, as much as I'd like to, I'll be the last to go to bed early, consequences be damned.

Also, I've found that having ambient, quiet background sound/noise can really help contribute to a good night's sleep. (Sorry to contradict you here Steve) Dead silence is always kind of uncomfortable for me to get to sleep to.

Cause you're not used to it.
