Foot Pain
« on: February 04, 2010, 05:27:08 PM »
So, I just started parkour a few days ago, and thinking the wall run was ultimately awesome, I practiced it for a while. (probably not the best move to start with) Gradually, my foot began to hurt. I thought it would wear off, but it's been three days and I can hardly walk. It's around my heel area, and only hurts when pressure is applied. Was I doing the wall run wrong, or what? There's no visible damage.

Thanks.  ;D

I think your technique is wrong since you said your heel was hurting. For the wall run, you use the front of your foot (toes and balls of your feet) to push, not the whole foot or heel.

I was. Although I used the right part of my foot, I see I did the step up part wrong. Could that be it?

Were you barefoot? And is it your heel, or ankle? A wrong movement with the foot can often cause a pain in the ankle, but heel? You shouldn't be using much of your heel on a wall run.

Check this tutorial out by Adam McC, I'm sure it'll help a lot. If you have anymore problems, feel free to ask.

I was wearing shoes. It's both. I'm aware, I used the front of my foot, only.

Too much stress.

Likely aggravated your calcaneal tuberosity where the plantar fascia connects.

Take it easy and ice and massage it.

If you don't let it heal it will turn into chronic plantar fasciitis and likely heel spur.

you gotta strengthen it by doin things like burpies or just running....the fact that you started out on a technique that involves a lot of compression slighly damaged that area.  not permanent but jus condition your body

I think you could be doing it wrong. When you use the front of the foot its not really like running up the wall. It should be just a light push, it shouldn't hurt at all.

Hm. Well, from the tutorials I saw, you kick into the wall, and not downward to go up, right?

That's right, but no matter what technique you use, running into the wall obviously involves a lot of force. My shin started hurting when I kept doing wallruns.
Let it heal and condition by running and the other good stuff.
