A Routine
« on: February 02, 2010, 09:37:00 PM »
Oi... I know this has been asked so many times before but yeah...

I have no idea what exercises to do other the push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats. Personally I want to build strength, but I don't have weights to work with, and I can't go to the gym on a regular basis. And when doing a workout it's right to do sets like 10 push-ups, 10 squats, ect. and then repeat instead of doing like 5 sets of 10 squats then 5 of 10 push-ups, yeah?

So pretty much what is an effective way to build a routine that I can do on my living room floor?

Did you read the stickies?  This one is usually useful for people in your situation:

Yeah I read all of them, that one just confused me. I don't know half of those are... Looking at it again I'm more confused. And anything under strength that I actually have any idea what is, is weighted. People always say "Read the sticky." or "Use the search." but any time I do that I come out more confused...

I guess it can be useful for what I said "I have no idea what exercises to do other the push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats." yeah... But It only has links to what I know. I would really love a link to a Frog Planche but nowhere ever has that. Quite a lot of that I've seen/heard of before but can't do, like a hand-stand push-up. Or the levers (if they're what I think they are...)

... And I lost my train of thought.

http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/229/ has both planche and front lever progressions, and it's a great article.

If you gained exposure to things that you don't know then google is your friend - and you have learned much already.

That sticky clearly outlines how to make a basic program (Hold the isometric holds in a progression until you hit a 20 sec solid hold; 3x5 reps for strength work while increasing weight).  It can be a bit rough to understand if you are coming from nothing but that is part of the learning process.  I refuse to make a routine for you as I have done this hundreds of times and maybe 1% of people actually follow any routine I make for them.

I have led you to water, time for you to drink.
