North Carolina Parkour
« on: January 05, 2010, 12:12:35 PM »
What's up? I'm not one to post regularly on APK but I figured I'd give you guys an update on our little scene.  ;) NCParkour started three years, one week, and two days ago on December 26th, 2006. Since then, we've grown from a few guys from around the state to over four hundred members. Around 2007 and early 2008, I believe we were one of the biggest scenes in America up with California, Colorado, New York, Washington, etc seeing over a hundred and fifty active offline traceurs and a state jam with over seventy traceurs. The thing is, we've never quite tried to reach out to people outside the state and the guys over at NCParkour would like to begin that.

Now I'm not promising that any of us will be posting here regularly but I'd like to extend a welcome to anyone who would ever give us the opportunity of a visit. We'd love to host you, show you around, and make love happy memories. Athletes from the Virginia, San Francisco, Colorado, and Seattle communities have always shown us love when any North Carolinians made a visit and we'd love to give it back. There are many American communities out there that APK doesn't know of and North Carolina shouldn't be one of them.

Cheers

wassup? my name is Nick, and I am also from North Carolina. Recently at NCParkour, we have been discussing ways to make the community more active. One of the main things we came up with was outreaching to other communities in an attempt to strengthen both our own community and the movement as a whole. In the past I have not agreed with some of the things APK has stood for (especially competition), but as I become more experienced in the discipline, I realize more and more how relatively unimportant these small disputes are in the grand scheme of parkour. The important thing is that we communicate with others so that we may all learn something. We don't have to see eye to eye on every issue. That's not what this is about. We just want people to know that we're here so we don't miss any opportunities to train with some great people  8)

This might be off-topic, but i'm pretty new to parkour and live in the Charlotte area and was wondering if there was a group in Charlotte.

Hey Nick, hey Bao.

I came to visit you guys last summer, and I had a blast! I was always kind of surprised that NC kept so much to themselves. You guys have a really tight community, and I hope you can spread the love!

If any of you want to come up and visit primal for a weekend, let me know and I'm sure we can figure something out.

One last quick question - How is Duncan? I haven't heard anything from or of him for more than a year!

Hey guys, just one more person hear to share the love. One of the major reasons many of us choose not to post on APK is that NCParkour is a pretty functional community in itself, and for most of us, the Forum provides a sufficient resource to get information as well as facilitating communications among other members. As of late though, our activity has become relatively stagnant, especially when compared to the seemingly booming growths among other parkour communities. Our minor problems aside, welcome, welcome, welcome.

This belongs here more because it is about how the national community relates to NC. No one would see it if they only posted it in the NC local board. ;)

Sweet guys! If you're ever coming up to Seattle again for another jam (I believe we'll be having another one this spring or summer), just give us a heads up that some of you are coming down. Love to meet you guys!

Yessir, Charlotte is one of NC's oldest communities!  We'd be glad to jam with you.  Check on NCParkour under sessions, there's a thread concerning our regular jams, and one concerning our 'gym jams.'  Keep an eye on the gym jams as they'll be starting up again soon as soon as we work out details.  There are still those who train on the regular jam times, but numbers are small because of the cold.  If you do schlep yourself out in the cold you're in for a treat as with those of us who do make it out in the cold are prone to quite focused jams.

And hello all, Steven here from Charlotte, NC.  I second my friend's Nick, Tony(Tomato), and Bao below.  Good guys  8).  Few things make me more excited than the prospect of jamming with and meeting all of you!
