annual Labor day jam
« on: August 28, 2006, 11:23:15 AM »
Willgrind planned a jam last labor day weekend in toledo  with great sucess, I wanted to continue the tradition this year(ok, so once isn't a tradition, but lets make it one). I think we should hold it in a different major city every year so as to take full advantage of all that Ohio has to offer. Or atleast set up a rotation between a few major cities so we keep challenging ourselves and it dosen't get boring or worse still, over done in one particular area.

I was thinking we could meet downtown cleveland(public square, any other suggestions?)  around 12-1:30 and then jam till we get hungry or booted , or you gotta go home.  If someone would rather have it in another city we could do that too, I just chose cleveland since its close to me, but I can drive and give people rides.

NEW LINK(one that works)

Ok So lets get the specifics of the jam down.
--Where in/around public square should we meet?
http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&q=public+square&near=Cleveland,+OH&radius=0.0&cid=41499444,-81695556,10511474191386958033&li=lmd
I vote for the fountain(I think thats what it is?) in the upper right/center corner, its the thing with the sidewalks that form an X w/ a circle in the middle. meet there. if you hybrid-ize the maps you'll see it
--Where is some good parking
-how much of the city do we plan on covering, just Public Square or are we gonna rove the city after a while at PS?

ps: thanks for pointing out my error ffcloud, that could have proven the bane of this jam

YES, if anything changes it will be posted in this thread. I know you're just trying to make sure you're up to date, but if anything were to change it would be posted here so that EVERYONE could be notified all at once rather than have 19 different people sending IMs to everyone else wondering whats going on so for the record.

We are meeting in  public square by what looks to be a fountain in the middle of a small park where the sidewalks create a n 'X', this is located near terminal tower. There is a satelite photo(linked already, upper right block) where this can be seen in the hybrid view
If anything changes it will be posted in this thread as soon as humanly possible

That quadrant of public square is closest to the key bank tower

Figured I'd keep with Flipp's tradition and recap the jam...

The roster: Nik, Uno (Joe), Luke, Evan (on camera), Andy, Me (John), Frankie (and fam), Jason and Joe.

Started out in the square closest to the terminal tower, trying out some moves from the last jam.  The tic-tac into a cat (near the ball nearest the tower) still eludes most of us but Joe and Jason were able to nail it consistently and Frankie was hit or miss.  The railings were used more this time than last with a few people making good time balancing on the long one.  The railing down the steps was new and I think everyone was able to make it down.  Jason was able to make it clear over it and all the way down to the bottom, finishing with a roll (on concrete!).  Joe was able to make the speed-vault (twice!) as well as the long ass precision from the statue across from the church, both of which had bested him last jam .  I had to work on my form quite a bit, but I was able to make a similar precision off the statue, though it was about 3 feet less distance; Joe (uno), Frankie and Jason also made it I think.

After the statue, we started making our way down superior and got about 20 feet before starting the wall-runs, tic-tacs and 360 tic-tacs as well as the wall-run/muscle-up/top-off on the courthouse.  A little random kong/vaulting on the way down Superior to a spot I thought would be cool but which had been closed off :-/  We did a few precisions and kongs (over the tables) at the National City tower until the wall running started.  Joe was inches from grabbing the ledge (probably a good 10 feet up), Uno was pretty damn close too and Luke, with only a few tries, looked like he'll be able to make it for sure next time.  After that, we walked back toward terminal tower and headed over to the Renaisance parking staircase.  Only 1 turn-vault was made before the security was all over us asking us to leave.  Nik, who hurt himself in performing that one jump, wasn't in the best walking condition and told the security guard so (Evan (I think) - "the guy looked like a little Chuck Norris") soon a 2nd guard showed up and gave Nik crap about leaving the premises, at which point he sat on the sidewalk; 6 inches from where he was sitting! They didn't like that, (nor did Nik) so, to appease them, we left, which is where things ended.

Add your take on the story, or let me know if I messed up the facts.

Until then...
John
