the way i learned, and teach, rolling is to start on your shoulder that is NOT your dominant hand. put your dominant hand palm down on the ground fingers spread apart. take your other NOT dominant arm and lay your forearm on the ground perpendicular to your dominant hand. your fingers on your NOT dominant hand should be pointing at your dominant hand with your elbow facing away from your dominant hand. your entire forearm should be resting on the ground. push a little bit forward with your legs, set the flat area between your NOT dominant arms shoulder, neck, and shoulder blade on the ground and roll diagonally across your back. you start on your NOT dominant shoulder, and roll across so your dominant side hip touches the ground. you should tuck your legs obviously, and be able to end up crouched on both of your feet without any assistance from you arms or hands whatsoever. it will take practice and im not saying you have to start on your NOT dominant shoulder. but that is how i teach it. you may be able to roll perfectly beginning on your dominant side, but be sure do go diagonally then to your NOT dominant hip and practice getting onto your feet using only the momentum of your roll.
good luck
