beginning. and female. :D
« on: November 19, 2009, 05:51:06 PM »
So I'm new to this.  ??? I really wanna get into it, and I have the dedication and motivation. so I had this crazy idea to reach out to other people in Columbus, Ga, and see if I can get fit, have fun, and make some new friends in the process.  Any tips, comments, suggestions?

Well, hello there. You should familiarize yourself with the FAQ:
http://www.americanparkour.com/content/category/6/98/417/

Start on landing and roll techniques, stay away from heights [Anything above your waist.]
Knowing the safety precautions first is an absolute must. Don't train too hard, know your limitations.

Train safe, train hard, train right.

EDIT: You can also find people to train with in the Local sections:

Hey there, Mindyblues!
Welcome to APK!  You mentioned in your subject that you're female-have you found your way to the Women's section of the forum, yet?  There's some great gals there who can help you with some training stuff.
But, if you're starting out and on your own, as un-fun as it sometimes in, it's best to work on conditioning your body in addition to your skills.  If you don't gain muscle and simply go out and do parkour, you're just beating your body up.  Plus, when you build up that muscle, it will enable you to do more and more things.
Good luck with your training!  I hope you find some traceurs/traceuses to train with :)
