Everybody! Point and laugh at the SuperN00b!
« on: November 18, 2009, 05:47:11 PM »
Ha ha, if you couldn't tell I'm talking about me :P. My names Dawn and I'm new to parkour [really?]. I've been a fan of the sport for a long time, just recently learned the name and joined in! I can tell you flat off I'm in no shape to try highjumps or backflips yet [I'm a midsized person], but I can do vaults and normal balencing acts. Precision jumps have me a little intimidated but I'll over come them soon enough XP. Anyway, I live in Idaho [in the middle of nowhere], so lots of running space! Any information you could give would be [supremely] useful and...who wants to go running? :D
Bitterly Sarcastic, I've always dreamed I wasn't human

as another newb, I recommend working on rolls and landings.

and general, all around strength, endurance and flexibility.
and put points in stamina too.

Hey Dawn, welcome to this amazing place we call the APK forums!.... Yeah.
....
....
....

Anyways, let's get back on topic. My main concerns are that you start off slow, and don't rush the progression, you have a whole lifetime to improve ;) Make sure to not take any drops of a larger height, even smaller drops to be honest, not until you have really conditioned your joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. This will save you a lot of grief. I highly suggest you start out by working on your rolling technique and slowly build up from there, working with all the common techniques.

Here's a page from PKCali that will give you a good introduction to the discipline, compiled with links to fanastic articles: CLICK HERE

Have fun, train safe, and make sure to look in your state for local discussion and some experienced Traceurs/Traceuses to train with! CLICKY THING

Again, welcome and enjoy your stay!

Welcome to APK Forums.
Like the rest says please start easy and slow. Practice landings and rolls. Stay away from heights taller than yourself.

As well as read the FAQ:

Good training.
