Hi there!
Yes, I know, "every situation is different" and "just do what you can."

But seriously, haha. If you were to never use any parkour moves again except for five, which five would you keep? Why? This is both a curiosity question, but also lets me know which moves are most important to drill, et cetera. (Yes, I know, "drill everything"...)

Thanks Tongue

You're right, it would depend on many other factors such as what situation would be best and ect

It's hard to condense it, and just name 5, but I'll play along Wink

1 greatest-5 least

1.)Speed Vault. I just feel more comfortable with this and I drill it more than any other vault (check out avatar pic, yo!)
2.) Monkey/Kong.
3.) Lazy
4.) Dash
5.)Kash

Ahh this makes a lot more sense. I see the title now for 5 most useful MOVES and not VAULTS! I am too lazy to change now though >_<

Lol, Tom you beat me to it.  If I had to pick parkour-specific movements though, it'd go like this:

1-Kong
2-Wallrun
3-Cat Leap
4-Climb-up
5-Crane

I don't know if climb-ups are "moves" or not, but they're definitely one of the most useful things in parkour.  Also, cranes are way under-appreciated.  I love being able to jump on something at my head height.

1-5 THE ROLL

So if you were to never use any parkour moves except for the five you listed (as the original question stated), you would keep five rolls?

That's cool bro, have fun rolling EVERYWHERE. I'll see you at the top of the stairs. Or not.

In no particular order:

1: Landing/Rolling (Rolls are definitely integral, and it's surprising how few people know how to land properly on two feet.)
2: Precision (Whether from two feet standing, one foot standing, two feet running, split foot running, precisions are very important if you ever need to land on anything other than flat ground.)
3: Climb up (Depending on the kind of environment you're in, climb ups are the difference between going EVERYWHERE and going NOWHERE.)
4: Simple vault (This is a skill that may often be overlooked by more experienced practitioners, but it's an incredibly versatile vault. It's the vault most people can get the highest with, it's very safe, and very easy to execute. It's only real downside is its speed, which is mediocre.)
5: Lazy Vault (Simplest vault that allows you to safely pass over obstacles that are not perpendicular to the direction you're facing. Versatile in that it can be executed from a standing position or a sprint, and it's very safe. About as fast as simple vaults.)

Those are probably the movements I would choose if I could only use 5 of them. Not sure if it would be a good idea to swap one of the vaults for the speed vault though, seeing as neither the simple vault nor the lazy vault are particularly fast.

For me, it has to do a lot with the environment I train in. I happen to train in a place with lots of concrete and very high walls, so it would probably be like this for me:

1. Rolls
2. Wall Climbs
3. QM/Cat Balance
4. Speed Vault
5. Precision

But they're all important.  Smiley

Hahaha! De ja vu, man! Those good old cranes.

If we're being specific, the five movements that are most used in the environment I live in, which is fairly sparse.. would be..

Safety vault. Love that thing.
Climb Ups. Smooth climb ups let you go anywhere you can reach.
Kongs. Kongs transition you to all sorts of movements, like cats, precisions, and plenty of other things.
Rolls. Rolls are just an invaluable tool for continuing your movement safely
QM. Quadrupedal movement comes in handy in so many instances. Just the feeling of comfort in that position is a real tool.

I believe a safety vault is the same thing that I call a simple vault. Just plant your hands to a side and hop over that sucker. Most instinctive thing in todays world for gettin over stuff.

No, a safety vault is a simple vault during which you put your foot down on top of the obstacle to help you get over.

1. Muscle up (if you can't pull yourself up sometime, your gonna fall)
2. Rolling (rolling helps prevent roadrash)
3. Vault (need I say it? To pass over things, duh)
4. Pop Vault (to reach higher places)
5. Tic-Tac (get to places you can't get to with just a pop vault)

Basically it's a speed vault using your legs to assist passage.
