Does this exersice have a name?
« on: November 12, 2009, 09:28:05 AM »

I've been doing these to improve my core strength and rolls/flips.

Does anyone know what they're called?

You start out lying flat on your back, arms fully extended above your head.
Then you bring you legs up, bringing your knees to your chest. In the same movement, you bring your arms down to clutch your shins.
As you do this, curve your entire body in, to make as small a ball as you can.

So do they have a name?

These are going to do nothing to improve your core strength, though I've found practicing that tucking motion hard helped my flips, though because I was practicing tucking harder and faster, not because I was strengthening anything.

If you want a stronger core, start working L-sits or planks, and if you want a more explosive core, start back flipping more...

Heck yea! Backflips are sure to give you a good core workout. ;)

I remember constantly crushing my spine when I would attempt them on trampolines. I still don't know how I'm walking.

Now to do them on the ground.

If you're not ready for backflips yet, try the knees to elbows (k2e) exercise.

I do that, except my arms are down and holding me up off my cabinet.

I've seen that exercise in a lot of back flip videos. Other than that, never seen it used.

Why do they need a name when you have a picture?

I would call them N-ups or tuck sit-ups but they don't have an "official" name as far as I know.  I don't see why they need one.

"Pointless"

I wouldn't say pointless...

They're great for warm-up exercises. We did them at the WAPK National Jam after some running, QM, and downwards dogs. They got the sweat going.

I was just asking for a possible name so I could look for any references and such.

Thanks.
