The Caper Chronicles Film is Launched
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:34:06 AM »
caperchronicles.com is now live, featuring The Caper Chronicles: Lot 129, a comic book action film focused on parkour.

www.caperchronicles.com

The film stars Tyson Cecka and Adrian Gonzalez of the Tribe, Janine Cundy and Jared Woods of the Alliance, as well as several members of Miami Freerunning, and was helped in a large part by Mark Toorock.

The film is 16 minutes long and is viewable in two parts. With enough support and interest from the community, we hope to expand this film into an ongoing webseries, making the Caper Chronicles the country's first parkour-centric fictional series and one which is led by and features the community itself.

The site hosts the film and loads of behind the scenes videos detailing the choreography of the film and the creation of some of the stunts. More videos and clips will be released as we grow closer the the premiere of Part 2 on November 27th.

It's an entertaining, high energy film featuring some of our country's finest athletes in a comic-book styled plotline.

Give it a look. The community's feed back is paramount to ensuring that the film is presenting Parkour in a productive, professional, and entertaining way and that we'll have the chance to continue this series .

This was great!

At first I thought this was going to be extremely corny, but it was done very well instead. The Parkour was perfect too. No big extreme terrifying stunts, but not too little action. The choreography seemed perfect, in my opinion. It also showed the real uses of Parkour in a real situation, how you can get over things with ease. Major kudos to you guys!

Awesome production value.  What camera was this filmed on and what lenses (if it is interchangeable)?

Thanks guys.

1st Unit shot on the Panasonic HPX-170 and 2nd Unit shot on the Panasonic HVX200a, both fixed lens cameras. They're pretty solid HD cameras, though they were also one of our many sacrifices to budget.

Help us spread the word if you can. The more feedback we can get, the better.

Thanks

Well I can't wait for the second one.  I am a film maker too and I know this must have taken a lot of effort!  How many days did production take?  And how many days did the non parkour part take?  I liked that crane shot in the beginning and the shot of the auction that then tilted up to the guys on the roof.  The set design and shot planning were so professional that the acting stuck out as being the weakest part to be honest.  It was not horrible (except a few individual lines maybe).

But yeah, overall I think it was great.  If you are really focusing on making narratives with parkour in them though, maybe a little more narrative parts in there.  I mean it seems like a glorified chase scene.  A really really amazing one.  But I think to capture people's interest even more, maybe pump up the story a bit.  Depending on how much time this is going to take and how many episodes there will be, I would probably have wanted to turn it into a short feature or something.  Maybe a possibility in the future?

I like those cameras.  I started on a DVX100b and I have a couple friends with HVX's that I have used.  Now I shoot on a 5dmarkii.  If you wanted to shoot on red, rental prices are pretty dang low.  But I know about tight budgets.  You can't really be making any money on this, can you?  Anyways, really nice work.

To mix in more story into the plot in any future episodes, I would parallel cut between the actual chase and something non parkour like going on with another character (maybe trapped in a building as the villain tells about his genius plan and gives a sort of background for the audience.  You could also use flashbacks during the chase to mix things up so that it all kind of comes together in the end instead of just a simple "Protagonist thieves steal from a rich corrupt man who sends his goons after them."

These are just suggestions and criticisms because I think it was so good that you deserve these types of criticisms.  But it was honestly very professional.
