Just discovered this group
« on: November 09, 2009, 12:51:07 PM »
Hello all, I currently live here in Madison and have had an interest in getting into parkour / freerunning for some time now. I've been Scrambling and Bouldering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouldering at Devil's Lake all summer long, this has helped me really get a feel for balance as well as being able to know how to make some short-powefull body movements.

Basically I've been meaning to try my hand at some parkour / "free-running" w/e. I have just discovered this site and am very interested to start up. I've looked over some of the details on the MadisonParkour site and I guess I just have some general questions as to how this group is setup.

As far as the tranining sessions go, are these open events and/or organized in any way? What sort of group sizes to do you usually see at your events? Thanks for any info you can provide me with. Thanks!

EDIT: SORRY i have just found http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php/topic,19749.0.html

Berg, my name is Keys. I generally train around the downtown area 2-3 times a week. Anytime we're out you're more than welcome to come with. In fact I encourage you to come with us as soon as possible since good weather will be increasingly sparse with winter approaching.

Our sessions are pretty simple an natural really. We stretch and warmup, do a few exercises and the rest is basically just playtime. Sometimes we try to find a new way to work with an obstacle, sometimes we set up a "line" or path, and then we "trace" or follow the path.

Anyways pm if you'd like my phone number. We can network and get something set up.

Welcome!

Also, Madparkour will be signing up for APK's new jam planning feature, which will send text messages to everyone who subscribes, if anyone is interested in planning an impromptu jam. So it will be easier than ever to get people together.

Watch for more details on this in the next couple of days/weeks. :)

Is it going to be a Wisconsin-wide thing? or are you doing it for Madison only? I would be glad to pitch in if it was the first option!

I think there's some sort of mile-radius limit. But I will look into it. There was an article about it on the main page.

If you have a chance you should come out this sunday. You can take a look at the training calendar for details.

I have also recently discovered parkour and this website. I'm glad to see such a great community in the area. I'm completely new to parkour but i would like to add these elements to my workout regime. Besides the amazing skills, this looks like an awesome workout and a ton of fun. Seems a little overwhelming to start out but I'm willing to work at it and learn what I can.

Same deal to ANYONE who stumbles into this community.

Meet us. We want to teach you parkour! The more of us learning and growing the better we'll all be!
