Hey guys, I need your help. Lately I have been working on improving the site. One of the things I want to do is to add a background to the sides of it, something hawaiian pk looking.

If you guys have any suggestions please let me know. This is what you got to play with.

Remember it will split, and the site scrolls down. It cant be to OUT THERE either for the main purpose is just to make the site appealing while still directing the focus to the center.

You guys can play with that and submit your ideas, we will discuss them and go from there.

This is my fav so far, got a few others though.

Keep in mind that you can scroll down on the site, unfortunately I cant take a full screen shoot of the page. But if you were to scroll down you would see the rest. I am choosing pics that were taken "sideways" so that they are longer than they are wider and wont have to repeat the pic as you scroll down.

I will also be working with whichever pic is chosen, so that its a little faded or better contrast. Again, I dont want it to take the eye away from what matters most which is the content itself.

Is it too attention getting? We want it to complement the main site, not distract. Right now my eyes go to the forest on the left side, and just stay there. Even when they glance over to the HIpk banner, they return to the left forest.

Maybe blur it, to lose some of the detail? I love the rich color, and it would be a shame to wash it out/ desaturate it.

Email was already sent to Ozzi,

But my idea was too have a photo jam, get a couple guys with a camera walking around during the jam taking photos. After the jam the photos are edited and voted(?) The top 20 or so are made into a "film strip" layout that scroll down the sides.

This way the website is more personal for you guys

As A side note im pretty sure I would be able to get some sick shots .

hmm i wouldn't blur it at all. It brings out the site more and that's coming from a pro. Photographer. It's nice and i'd keep it like that or you could add a volcano erupting in the back.. just some ideas

When I first read this, I thought you were going to BAIL for us, so we could use shots of that

The only volcanic eruption you can see right now is on Big Island. It's not something that inspires you to go out and train, unless you're training to get away from it. The forest photo is a great PHOTO, but as a background, it's too attention grabbing. My opinion, my experience. I end up looking at the photo, and not at the site.

By throwing in a motion blur of 20 px, I still get the color, but lose a lot of the detail. My mind gets bored of it after a couple seconds, and goes to the site, as it should.

Plus, the concept becomes "we're moving through the forest" rather than "we're sitting in the forest looking at all the beautiful plants." It's an added bonus.

I like the ones guys idea, a photo mash. I was thinking that same thing before I clicked the topic even ^^. If we use a mash up of all the different community members it brings us together as that, a community.

I also like the forest idea, as long as you go ahead and blur it like Greg said, cause I agree it was way distracting.

Again I want this too be of the whole Hipk community and think it would be pretty sweet to do it in a photo jam. I don't want to be the only photographer out there, I think it would awesome to see everybody's interpretation of the art
