Practicing the monkey vault on steps
« on: November 07, 2009, 08:11:05 PM »
 Hello :D

So I've been trying a few different things to try and master the monkey vault which I seem to have trouble to do.

So, is it considered a monkey vault if I do the general movement on steps ? Is it an effective way to train the monkey vault? Or isn't it a very good thing to train the vault on and if so what else should I practice it on.

P.S : I do have another topic in the movement Subcategory | parkour. But it gets next to no views and I put another here to generate some more traffic (plus it's a new question :P).

Feel free to lock/remove/whatever if necessary.

Thanks :D

you're thinking of a kong buddy... monkey vault isn't what you do on stairs.. look through apk's explanations of the basic moves before you default and ask us something that could've been easily answered if you just took the time to look yourself.

heres a tut http://www.youtube.com/user/UrbanCurrent#p/u/14/YoSHryz88l0

I know what the two vaults are...

And before you throw links at me , Ill tell you that I've watched enough of them.

Seeing as were both at a mis-understandment, I'll just say I've seen people say that they "monkey vault up steps now" from just skimming through other threads.

Don't get mad at me if theres slight confusion between us/whoever.

::EDIT:: - Already watched that guide.. thanks anyways?

::EDIT2:: I, by no means, wish to come off as rude, as I do appreciate your help nonetheless, but im quite confused if what im doing is a kong >.>

Is your vault on the steps fluid, fast, or plain old fun? If so, it really doesn't matter what you call it or if it's the best way to train. Enjoy it, and for all you know, you might need that movement some day, whatever it is.

If you want to practice a traditional monkey-vault, I recommend using an obstacle that is between your belly-button and sternum in height. It should be vertical and have a large flat top (see below) so you don't drop into a faceplant if you accidentally hook your feet.

If you're looking to specifically train your monkey vault skills, don't use stairs. You need an obstacle that you can approach from a standing position and be able to stand right in front of. You have to lean forward a great deal to plant your hands on a stair for that particular movement.

Practice on a picnic table, as they are so common. Practice getting your feet over the edge of it and onto the top, then move on to a rail or a thinner wall once you're comfortable with not clipping your feet.
Your obstacle is my shortcut.
