lazy/turn vault to cat help
« on: May 08, 2010, 11:16:13 PM »
today i was working on a movement that my friend and i discussed but we both seem to be having a little trouble with.  i don't know if there's a name for it but its basically half a lazy vault and half a turn vault (eventually i would like to do it finishing in a cat). to describe it a little better: approach for a lazy vault with left hand, lazy vault, place right hand on rail as if you were coming out of a regular lazy(palm facing your body), turn body to the right, bring left hand around and land facing the rail with both hands on it like you just did a simple turn vault.  sounds somewhat simple and in my mind it looks simple but here's where my friend and i are having trouble with this:  i can't get my left hand around my body from its first position to the second one before my feet reach the surface below the rail. its not a problem when the surface i'm landing on is horizontal but when its a wall and i'm landing in a cat, i think it will be a failure unless i can really get a good grip with just the right hand. i haven't tried it into a cat because i figure i should get the basics down first but my friend tried it and he runs into the same problem.  he basically ends up sliding down the wall because his left hand isn't getting to the second position in time.  does this make sense?  anyway, if anyone has some insight into this movement or has run into the same problem, advice and/or thoughts would be much appreciated.

I *think* I know what you're saying, but I may not, so excuse me if this souds retarded. Approach the rail/wall/whatever and put your left hand down in an undergrip/backwards position. It's not too comfortable but it works. Now all you have to do is hold on with that hand, turn and grab with your right hand. Now both hands are in the normal overgrip position, because you turned. :)

it has a lot to do with pivoting your hips and making sure your hips aren't too high as you lazy over, because that keeps you from effectively using your second hand. Make sure you keep the weight on your shoulders as well.

Also try throwing/kicking your outside leg down into the wall as you vault over it, it propels your body's momentum towards the wall instead of just over it.
