Kevin's Log

So...I started training today. I'm in 8th grade and I doubt any of my friends even know what parkour is. Hopefully I can get good at this despite living in a smallish town with not much to run on. I hope to form a parkour club/team at my highschool and see what happens from there.
I am a cross country runner. My mile time is 5:39 and getting faster by the week. I have no problem with leg strength however I could use some work on my upper body strength and my balance. I can hardly hold a hand stand for more than 5 seconds (not because of lack of strenght but because of lack of ballance). I take diving classes. I'm very good with flips and ariel awareness but im not confident enough to do it over concrete yet.

So lets start off with day one.

November 1st:
One mile run
16ft drop to roulade x10
40 muscel ups
20 pull ups
Climbing underneith the platforms of the playground structure which has little holes i fit my fingers through
appx. total of 30 minutes trying to get a hand stand....very slowly getting it

If you have any ideas for exercises I can do please post here. The equpiment avalible to me is my local YMCA gym/pool, my local elementary school's playground and not much else.
I'm open to any suggestion. I don't have a partner with me on this so I'm on my own. Like I said, no one knows what parkour means in my town so any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated. (Illinois is flat....and it sucks...don't count on there being hills...anywhere) You can't imagine how much I want to do this. Parkour is exactly the sport I was ment for. I already view the world as, "how can I climb this?".

But anyway, please give suggestion on work outs to do. (I already thought of one: Go to Cahokia Mounds and get to the top of monks mound (the one with stairs on it thats really high) and then get down as fast as possible)

thanks in advance
-kevin

First off please PLEASE don't take high drops, they will destroy your joints, nothing more that 3 feet until you get further in your training.

What are your goals?
"You can't catch me, I'm too fast."- Sebastian Foucan

"We can write with ink and pen, but we will sow with seeds instead starting with the words we've said and We Will All Be Changed"- Seryn "We Will All Be Changed"

"Imagination is everything"- Tim Shieff

Alright got it. Note to self: No high drops.
My goals:
I want to learn a wall flip. I can totally envision myself doing it, I just need a safe place to try.
I want my mile time to be 4:59 or better....(obviously running with do this...I'm already at 5:39)
I want to be able to do a hand stand and hand walk

Basic upper body strength and balance is what I mainly need.
