What are peoples thoughts on standardizing parkour vids?  Maybe things like:

- Create a boilerplate warning/disclaimer message and include with all vids.  (This is something we are working on for the SFPK community)
- Link to "What is parkour?" definition (or similar) in all vid descriptions.
- Link to one of a few top/selected parkour documentary vids in all vid descriptions.
- Link to your local community website or APK etc in all vid descriptions.

Things like that.  Doesn't have to be too detailed, or too strict, but I think if a lot of people started doing this and it gained critical mass, it would really have an impact on the casual viewer and newcomers interested in parkour.

I came from before youtube, a lot of portrayals were inaccurate back then, too, haha.

I think that's an awesome idea.

I also think it wouldn't hurt for more people to take the time to video their conditioning practice and progression stuff and post it along side their samplers and best of videos  (or in the same video). (This way, people watching said video are more or less FORCED to see what goes into people's training and/or when they go to see more on the owner's page, they are also directed to training videos.)

I have nothing against people finding Parkour from youtube at all,
I actually enjoy helping new people train and learn, I've gotten
a large majority of my friends to start practicing with me.
I feel some people need to adapt and learn more before attempting
certain maneuvers!!
enough said.

Youtube can make parkour seem attractive to those who have never seen it. But you can't really understand parkour and especially the steady progression involved with parkour if you've never actually done it before. It makes me want to tear my hair out when I try to explain parkour to people who will NEVER understand it unless they try it, which they never will. Especially when their opinion is that parkour is inferior to standard sports. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it just pisses me off. I used to do standard sports, I used to be a varsity soccer player. But after quitting soccer due to the stress of competition, I can say that parkour is the most enjoyable "sport" I have ever done, and I've never been more passionate about anything else in my life. Well, except maybe when pokemon came out but still  :P

Same with me, I've quit pretty much all sports upon entering Junior high/Freshmen year. The stress of having to win all the time just doesn't appeal to me, and the general crowd of people that are in the sports programs in my town.. are well.. jerks.

I learned about Parkour from Video Games, when I first played Assassin's Creed it really inspired me. I also got a chance to play Mirrors edge also, but the game wasn't that good. It had good concepts and ideas, but really.... not much of a game, I beat it the same night I bought it.

But back on topic, I learned about parkour through playing Assassin's creed. My most favorite game. CAN"T WAIT FOR ASSASSIN'S CREED 2 IN 2 WEEKS!!!!

ok..... so I searched and researched about freerunning, even though Altair never done any flips, assassin's creed still called it that. and I found out about Parkour, which I fell in love with.  saw some sites and they ultimately led me to this one. which is now my primary inspiration and focus point. Youtube was not really involved until I got started for a week or two. and I have to say the best tutorials I've come across are on the APK youtube channel. Even though youtube didn't inspire me. I learned alot from youtube.

I was also brought here via Youtube videos.

Sensible people will know that they can't jump off roofs and be safe without proper practice.

And the others will not. Common sense is rare these days, my friends.
