Hi, I’m Bill Saunders, I’m a student filmmaker at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. I’m taking a documentary making workshop next semester, and decided to submit a proposal to do a documentary short on parkour on account of it being A) Awesome, B) Doable (my original ideas were something dealing with the ritual abuse cases of the 80s, which… is very much not doable, or that town in Pennsylvania which is constantly on fire, which was just too far away), and C) Really, Really Awesome.
Anyway, I’m looking for people who would be interested in participating. I’d like to make this about what people get from parkour on a personal level, so the ability to talk about why you do parkour, how you got into it, and what you get from it is key. I also hope to get into the increasing commercialization of parkour, with it appearing in stuff like Casino Royale, and that Freerunning videogame that’s coming out, so if you have strong feelings either way on that, that’d be a plus. If not, it’s not a huge matter, since where the film ends up actually going is going to depend a lot on what the interests of the people who participate are.
Basically, I’m looking for people who are passionate about parkour, and are willing to talk about it. And who are also in the NY area, and preferably over 18 (although under 18 is also workable, so long as you’re parents/guardian wouldn’t mind). If you’re possibly interested or have any questions about the project, please email me at
wisaunders@vassar.edu, or just reply with them here. You can also try IMing me at Onionania, although I’m going down to Philly to work on a shoot there, so… my screen name probably won’t be particularly active in the next week or so.
Thanks,
-Bill Saunders
