Workout B

Warm-Up 500m Row 1:52s

Dips
65x3x5

Squat
45x10
95x5
135x5
165x3x5
Felt a lot better about keeping my chest up

OH Press
45x5
70x5
100x2x4

DL
100x10

I tweaked something in my lower back recently and will be seeing my chiro Ken Kao tomorrow (Sat. 1/23/2010) Updates to follow.
Squats did not hurt, but the last 1-2 reps on the OH Press pushed something, but I broke form and arched my back on those reps.
DL was in and out through the pain as I tried to focus on form, monitoring the pain was something of a distraction.

Hopefully Chris and I can go over form before my appt.

Worth it (at least the flavor, not the greasy feeling) until about about 45 minutes later when I had to eat a floret of broccoli and drink a half gallon of water to calm my stomach down.

On a side note, I can't believe I used to eat like this semi-regularly. After watching Morgan Spurlock's health decline in Super Size Me (movie) I was inspired to avoid fast food restaurants. So far, the next day, I have only felt sluggish for a couple hours this morning and returned to my clean diet. I definitely will not be eat like that again, PWO or otherwise for quite a while. It really isn't worth it.

Eating like that really is a bitch, but you get used to it, sadly. It's one of the amazing things about the body I've just come to realize over the course of my little adventure with the fast food bulking method. As you've seen, my face was pretty badly broken out, I felt shitty all day, my immune system TANKED, etc.

But my body is disgustingly starting to become used to it. That Guac Burger did nothing noticeable to me. I didn't feel sick after like I used to. I can now eat 4 double cheeseburgers from burger king without feeling like i'm going to blow chunks.

Just an interesting observation on how damn adaptable the Human body really is.
Life is what you make of it.

As I write this, yesterday was my one year anniversary of training parkour. Looking back I feel pretty accomplished, I have been able to learn many things that I thought were hard or impossible to do. Over coming these obstacles in the past year have taught me that I shouldn't think in possible/impossible terms, just things that I haven't achieved yet that I want to achieve.

Recently I suffered a strain on a tendon on my hip (with the pain being in my lower back), which has all the indications of an overuse injury. This is why my training log has not been updated for a while. I took two weeks of rest at the advice of my sports chiro and since then, I have been avoiding any movements or exercises that aggravate it. Unfortunately this includes explosive movement (plyometric and flips) and heavy lifting. I have decided to start lifting again for form with low weight as not to aggravate it. This injury has become extremely frustrating, it feels like there are very few things that I can train, especially to bring me closer to my goals. Body-weight exercises have been aggrevating the hip (or back) much less, if at all, so I would like to restructure my workouts centered around that notion (BW exercises) to continue my progression.

Any input in this regard is extremely appreciated.

Thanks Derek! Hope to see you at Cali Jam in a couple weeks!

Wednesday 3/3/2010
Today my chiro examined my hip, which I "tweaked" 5 weeks ago, and now I am easing back into my regular training. Hopefully, I actually "ease" I have the tendency to jump head first back into it...  :-\

I have been working box squats with and w/o the bar to stay active since I haven't been keeping my log up-to-date. I have seen improvement in my squat form as a result. I will be resume my regular lifting again as if from the beginning to strengthen my foundation and form.

Yesterday I started working muscle-up to shoulder stand press on rings and hope to move to full handstand press in the near future.

Monday 3/8/2010
Beginning Conditioning again
WPU
50x2x4
50x2x3+F
This felt weak. Goal is 100x3x5.
Squat
45x10
95x5
135x4x5
Starting work sets at 135 again to progress with proper form. However, I was leading with the hip too much, needs to be one fluid motion.
Bench
135x5 Too heavy from the standpoint of tightness in my left arm (delt?)
115x3x5 Slightly uncomfortable, but managable, will see chiro soon.
GHR Machine (Back Extensions?)
BWx4x10
Goal: 1 GHR on floor.

Tuesday 3/9/2010
Flips, headsprings. Just felt good to trick again.
Then CrossFit Fran 11:20 minutes.
21-15-9
95# Thrusters
Kipping Pullups
Biggest Weakness was the thrusters, will work on this. Pullups, not a problem.

On WPU, 100x3x5 is a good goal.  It will take you a while.  Right now im at about 60x3x5 (maybe a bit more) with 100x2 for your reference.  When you can do 100x3x5 on WPU your max will probably be upwards of 120.

On the squat you may want to focus on the "lean back" cue.

Wednesday 3/10/2010
Warm-Up
500m Row 1:50 and for form (flat back)
Dips
50x3x5
This was harder than it used to be, I'm just glad to be back at it
Squat
45x10
95x5
145x3x5
OH Press
45x5
65x5
95x4x4 This was very hard, it was also pointed out to be that I was allowing the bar to travel forward, instead of moving my face out of the bar's way...

135x3x5
Need to work on form, chest up, shoulders back.
