I want to get into Parkour/Free running but I am a little concerned that I am to... large. I have done martial arts in the past and when it's needed I have stamina. I am worried that because of my height my center of gravity may be an issue for many aspects of free running. Can someone (honestly) assure me this is not the case?

Trust me. That's not a problem at all. Height is never an issue for anyone (Most of the people that are pro are around 6'0", 6 extra inches honestly isn't a big deal) Most people who come here and generally concerned about their weight to which this is all I have to say.

Well, I am not really happy with my weight but height was my main concern, thanks for the comment though :)

hey Blitz,

I'm 6'7'' 210 lbs right now and I've never had a problem with my height. I mean sure some things are harder but i use my height to my advantage. Everybody moves differently you just have to figure out how to master yourself and use your body style to your advantage!

so, say I'm a 19 year old girl that weighs 230lbs and wants to do parkour...really badly. Where the hell do I start??? That weight is definitely all fat no muscle. People have said it's possible...just different, but i wasn't sure if that was more so aimed towards giant beastly men. Should I start with posts on beginners training or do I need to get in shape first? (which I'm totally serious about right now so it should take about a year maybe less.) Just looking for advice from some experts. :)

Hardly an expert, but parkour is a way to get in shape in of itself, if you do it right. Take it slow, and focus on the more cardio-heavy stuff--running, quadrupedal motion, and swimming.
Unfortunately, I don't have much advice for losing weight--I'm pretty heavy myself, but I'm more focused on gaining muscle than losing fat. Sorry.

But no, you don't really need to lose weight to get started. Balance, for example, can be done pretty well regardless of weight, and is immensely useful. Basic running and jumping, though more difficult, will also be useful and help you immensely to get into shape. Beyond that....it's your body; you should be able to figure out your limits.
