Mizzou
« on: October 12, 2009, 04:10:04 PM »
Hey, I never really searched the board for this, but my brother is going to Mizzou. He isn't on the forums, but I do know that he would like to find a couple of people to train with. He doesn't know parkour very well, so I'm looking for a couple more experienced Traceurs.

Hello!  I don't know if there's a strong community in Columbia.  I know there isn't anyone on here that's in Columbia, but that doesn't mean there isn't anyone that trains up there.  Where are you from?  It might be best if you got with someone from that community to learn the basics, then your brother could start training on his own up there.

I'm actually up in Chicago. I'm doing this cause my brother doesn't really know how to go about learning. I've been doing this for about 8 months. I tried to get him to a couple jams when he was still up here, but he never had the time.

Well as for myself, I had no idea what I was doing when I started, either.  I joined this forum and found out what kind of exercise and conditioning I would need before I started actual parkour, then I read tutorials to help me get the movements down.  It would have been a good experience to have someone more experienced to watch over me, but I wouldn't say I'm the worse off because of it.  If he wants to do parkour badly enough, let him take the initiative on his own and do some of his own learning. :)

Hello again.

I'm posting here to say that for the second week of March, I'm planning on being in Mizzou to visit my brother. I'm posting well in advance just to see how many of you might be able to make it there to do some training.

Steel,

I just registered for this Web site a few days ago, although I've had my eye on free running for a couple of years.
I live in Columbia and am a junior at Mizzou. I've never really trained for free running/parkour but I've always been really interested in it. If your brother is looking for another amateur to start training with, we could possibly start together.
Considering Columbia is a big college town with three colleges and numerous high/middle/elementary schools, I've always thought it to be an excellent place for free running - not to mention the Mizzou Rec Center - which is without a doubt the perfect gym to train in. Quite frankly, I'm actually surprised to see no one else at Mizzou really does free running (unless there's some kind of secret society of it, haha) because the community in Columbia is extremely diverse and open.
I am pretty busy but if I had someone to keep me motivated, I'd definitely give training for free running an important amount of time.

There's been a couple of people in the past who have been looking for opportunities in Columbia.  But I don't think anything ever materialized.  Maybe you should get a group going and get more people involved.

I too just joined this site... I have been watching videos form the site for some time now but have recently decided to go ahead and begin training.  I still have a very far way to go but one must begin sometime.  I am a senior at Mizzou and would be very interested in getting involved with a group to train with.  Who knows.. perhaps we could start a trend.  I know some others who might be interested.

Just keep checking back here and you'll find someone. Most of them face out because they post once and never check it again. So just keep trying to come back. Someone is sure to pop up soon. Maybe after the holidays and the after the craziness settles down.
I always face north, therefore I have no guides other than my body and mind. By always facing north I am always moving forward and up, regardless of the obstacle in my path.

TO ALL!!!!!!!

I should be coming to Mizzou for a few days the week of March 7. I don't know when or for how long, but I'm hoping to be there.

If you know Steven Ashby, contact him. I'm his brother and I will be visiting him.

Hey everybody,

I posted a message on here a while back wondering is anyone had been practicing at Mizzou.
I found some guys and had been practicing parkour for about a month or so on Mizzou campus. There are a few good places we've found on campus with general obstacles (picnic tables, rails, etc...).
I know this thread has died out a bit but if anyone is still looking, we're here. There are about 9 of us in the group but only 4-5 of us actually practice multiple times a week.

If anyone is interested in joining us, shoot me an email at corey.motley@gmail.com to let me know, as I don't check the forums on this site much
