new music
« on: October 12, 2009, 09:26:13 AM »
im pretty sure most of you have realized how many bands sound the same, and dress the same, and act the same. im pretty sure youve also realized that all the fans do what all the "cool" bands do too...

why is it that i cant find any articles about it online?

im doing a speech at school about the meaning of this song

i need articles from online to back up what i think, even though its more of an opinion..... even though ive tried specific things like the "skinny jeans" look and crap, i cant find any articles on it. the closest i got was about how the baby boomers destroyed our views on art, lol

This is just one reason why high school English class is a travesty; they tell you to give your opinion on a subject, then force you to validate it with sources that matter less in credibility than in the fact that they exist. They give you a paper by a terribly misguided author, then tell you to quote it in every single point you make. And what's more, you can't go beyond the scope of your 'slavemaster' article, or expand on it, or introduce new concepts or personal philosophies. And if you're a good writer, you come up with a product that's as horribly ineffective and garbled as the requisites force it to be, and yet still receive a 100.

The crucial mistake of this type of assignment is that it carelessly omits the fact that all the information inferred in all works of literature, no matter how compelling or pathetic, originates exclusively from the minds of people. And it might just be worth noting that students bear an uncanny semblance to people. I wonder what, exactly, is the essential difference? Perhaps that concepts left un-cited are un-established? Maybe I shall write and publish an essay now, on the various subjects which I expect to be tested upon at some point in my schooling, and then I may later cite my own work so that I could perhaps posit my own ideas in response to a prompt that demands my own ideas.

lmao

maybe i should just site the internet, and just be like "SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, DEFINITELY has to have my opinion.....and thus my research is complete" *takes bow*

im glad you see why im a lil pissed though, its dumb that my teacher asks us to say what we think a song is about, then back it up with SOMEONE elses reasoning...
