Just to let you know, Parkour/FR is not about taking drops.

So if you're taking drops you might want to rethink what you're doing and practice ground level technique.

Wandering,

Take some time and heal up. When you get better, come out and I'll teach you.

We have regular sessions at the Decatur Marta station at 7pm every Friday. :)

A broken clavicle probably means you did the roll correctly, but just didn't have enough muscle to take the impact. It's very important to recognize that, because the most important part of the roll is to protect your head and your spine from injury. Compared to a broken spine or smashed head, it's relatively easy to come back from a broken arm/clavicle.

Focus on healing up and follow all of your doctor's advise.

At the center of parkour lies training and the results thereof -- all of your efforts in parkour should be aligned with this central theme.

Wait What? You can do a roll PROPERLY and still break your clavicle? Dammit. I've heard a dozen stories over the past month about broken collarbones from rolls, and its really making me want to stay away from them. I don't really take high drops ever anyway, but still... I'd almost rather deal with the knee issues than break a damn bone.
Life is what you make of it.

I've seen close-to-perfect rolls go bad, ON MATS. It scares me too, but I don't like to think about it. The highest drops I take are maybe 4 feet, and that's rare.

Hope you're feeling better, Wandering!

I disagree that the roll was done properly if he broke the clavical.  The way you break it is a fall to the point of the shoulder.  And since the clavical is located on the mostly anterior aspect to the body--you had to hit it straight on from the side and slightly forward to break it.  So no, that isn't a proper roll.

And please enlighten me which muscle groups you are talking about that can shock absorb from a lateral to medial compaction injury?
