Creating a couple Zombie Slayers (From Fluff to Buff in 4 Months)
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:50:44 PM »
Alright you fitness junkies out there, I need a little help with something. A buddy of mine is writing a full length zombie movie, and has charged me with stunt coordination (As well as the job of treasurer, but that isn't so important).

The first scene takes place in October, when the outbreak starts. An infection runs rampant through a highschool, and spreads throughout the city, then the world, creating the ever epical zombies we all know and love. And they arent your decrepid, slow, falling apart zombies. They are more like the zombies in Day of the Dead or I Am Legend. Badass Zombies.

The second section is 2-3 months later, when pretty much the entire world is infected and there are but a few survivors left. The movie obviously follows the survivors.
More to the point. These survivors (my cast) need to look like men who have spent a few months fighting and working it out in the wasteland of what was society.

What I am asking for here is for a couple people to help me build a general workout plan for the cast. My buddy wants the second section to show noteable progress in the physique of the slayers. The why isnt important. I need help creating a workout plan for these guys which will add mass and tone to their bodies, and I have about 3-4 months (The October scene will be the first shot coming up here in a few weeks, and the rest of the filming will happen in a few months)

I was thinking of putting them on strict SS for 3 months, then adding in HIIT and more gymnastics style training for the last month while cutting down their consumption, to cut down the fat and give them a more sinewy look. Im wondering if it is possible to create a noticeable difference in just 3-4 months using this, or if something more extreme will need to be done. Ill personally be doing these workouts as well since Im one of the Slayers (who gets turned into a zombie for an epic battle, of course)

Any other suggestions?

Will 3-4 months be enough time to make a noticeable difference, or am I going to need more time?

I'm pretty sure SS= Starting Strength, which is a book/workout routine?

Link me anyone? :) I think it's time I read it....

Dudley, You can JOIN if you want. You can be in the film. There are going to be other traceurs in the film as well, but more as stuntmen. And I figured it wasn't as important to them as most are already pretty good looking. Im working with flabby dudes, guys who havent worked out in years, more than likely.

Eli... no comment... :D

Alright so a little update.

Workouts are starting this saturday, I'm going to have 3 guys on a S/M/W SS program... though an interesting development... We have a girl who wants to work out as well, though of course, she doesn't want to gain mass. How should I go about helping her to get toned? Scaled Crossfit workouts maybe?

What are her goals?  Just aesthetics?  If so, then that is very difficult because aesthetics come very slowly and novices tend to lose interest way before aesthetic gains are made even if they REALLY want to look a lot better.

CrossFit will help, surely, but she has to REALLY be interested in what she is doing.  I suggest she finds something she likes or set some goals.  Maybe even recommend martial arts as this gives most people the kick in the ass that they need.

I'm working on setting some with all of them, but largely aesthetics, yes. She's going to be training with us, we're all going to be working out together, so hopefully that will help them all maintain motivation

If you are educated you don't need to do P90X.  P90X is good as an intro for the masses but is not necessary in this case.  Jake is smarter than that.  He can program his own P90X if he needed to.

Or they get it kicked in sparring... ;D

BTW - SS is great for females who don't want to get big, also...provided that they want to get strong.
