Hawaii Parkour National Jam - Official Dates - Jan 21-25
« on: September 23, 2009, 02:28:14 PM »
Alright guys, so here it is. Finally daring to nationally open the doors to all traceurs and traceuses that want to make a jam  the perfect excuse and the best chances to visit paradise.

 The official dates are

Thurday 21st to Monday the 25th of January of 2010.

So Make sure you mark those days on your calendar and purchase your tickets with lots of time in advance. Anyone is welcome to come sooner and stay later. It is Hawaii and there is a lot to do.

There will be jamming, hiking, cliff diving and a whole lot of fun stuff.
We are currently working on the itinerary and will be posted as it gets done.

 Hosting.

Due to life events I am currently between places and unable to host anyone.

Ryan Furuya from HIpk can host 2 more people you can email him at rfuruya@hawaii.edu
David Saucedo from UCC can host another 2 his email dasaei@gmail.com

  Other hosting options

Here is a site to some hostels in honolulu, that is like right in town.  Some of the places we would go are around town, the prices look good.
 http://www.hostelworld.com/findabed.php/ChosenCity.Honolulu/ChosenCountry.USA?source=googleadwordsus&gclid=CN7_lv3jxJwCFRIcawodCU3knQ

If you want to find some camping ground near honolulu check this site
 http://www.hawaiistateparks.org/index.cfm

We are on the island of Oahu.

I have heard good things about this hostel
 $20 to $27 a night.
 http://www.seasidehawaiianhostel.com/

 Airport Transportation

I currently dont have a car, I cant promise I can pick you up if you are staying with me. I would have to let you know as you arrival hour approaches. I do however will provide you with all the info you need to get to my place, should only take about 30 to 40mins on the bus - bus ride $2.25 make sure to get a transfer as you would be taking 2 buses.

As for Ryan and David, you will have to arrange that with them as well.

Some things to consider

This is Hawaii, yes, paradise blah blah... January is still winter and can get rainy.
This is Hawaii, yes, sun blah blah..... It can get pretty hot - sunblock wouldnt be a bad idea.
Hikes - Wet rock and muddy terrain dont get along with Ariakes.
Video or photo cameras are highly suggested.

We will continue to update this thread as needed.

In the mean time start RSVP'ng and doing everything necessary to plan your trip. We really hope to see lots of you people here. I personaly hope to see the old good friends I made during my trip to CO.

You can check out the itinerary here

Changed ;D

The planning plan is being planned. So if you plan to be here, or already have your tickets, let Ozzi know as soon as possible.
As far as I know, the following activities have been crossed off the list:

Wild boar hunt, in the jungles of Oahu, armed only with sticks and knives : Ryan said it's dangerous and not fun.
Human sacrifice on a rock altar under the full moon : Full moon is Jan 30, so most of you will be gone. Plus, it's fatal.
100 mile swim from Oahu to Molokai to Maui : There will be plenty to do on Oahu. Plenty.

So the stupid and dangerous things have been crossed off the list. The fun things remain, and more are being added.

Be there. Aloha!

I've got room for 3 more people... email me (rfuruya@hawaii.edu) if you want to stay with me.

-let me know how long you wanna stay
-if you're gonna need help covering costs for food and transportation while here
-How old you are
-(%) sure you're coming

I guess some basic info on you like, how long you've been doing Parkour (just out of curiosity...I don't care if you've just started or if you've been doing pk since forever).  If you're going to school, what other stuff you like to do besides parkour, if you have a job what is it...idk just introduce yourself to me.

There's a very good possibility I'll be there with two others from Chicago.  Not sure on the duration yet and we'll figure out hosing when we become more certain.

:: glee! :: I have the dates saved and a fare alert set up on Kayak.com

The moment the fares drop below a certain threshold (ojala que pase), I'm so there! :D
(apologies to Ozzi for my horrible Spanish)

Given that I live in Wisconsin, a trip someplace sunny in the middle of January will be good for me.

I sooo hope this can happen!

as though there were some obstacle in the way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.

As crazy as it sounds (for me) I'm gonna try to get there. I can never make most National Jams because they're during the summer and I have to work. This might be my only chance haha.

The only things standing in my way is $600 airfare and missing the first week of college after the winter break. Wish me luck!

You've got so much time to let your professors know you'll miss class I doubt that will be a huge issue if it's only 1 week.  I'm letting mines know (I already know what I'm taking and who I'm taking it from) that I might miss class because I'm hosting people.  Just phrase the way you explain it right, my way for explaining why I might miss class for about a week was that I'm hosting "at-risk kids" (little white lie there) from the mainland for a function with a local LLC company (HIPK) associated with improving overall physical and mental heath through parkour.  Basically I'm saying that it's for the kids...that line usually lets me get away with anything.  However if you're working on a dissertation or a thesis this kinda BS might not fly.  I wish you luck man, hope to see you here.

Right there with you, man. Only minus $200 or so on the airfare.

I'll do it if you do it!  :P

Jk. I'm doing it anyway

Hike and Training.

10:30am
Meeting at the Pali Lookout.
MAP
11:00am
Warm up hike. Natural Exploration.

1:30pm
Training down at the look out.
We will be at that spot until 4:00pm.

Notes: Bring a change of clothes, it can get muddy. Ariakes dont do well on slippery terrain.

Maunawilli falls.
Map

9:00am
Meeting at the gate.

9:30am
We head up.
.
This is a small hike (about 1hr) with some opportunities on the way. The fun is at the falls, jumping off anywhere from 10ft to 35ft. The way down is usually a lot faster. Our fastest at the moment is about 10 to 15mins.

Notes: Mosquito repellent would be useful, a change of clothes as it WILL be muddy.
IMPORTANT: This event could be canceled due to flash floods. Depends on how the days starts.

Afternoon

3:00pm
Training at UH (University of Hawaii) until we cant move anymore - Night session welcome.

Sunday the 24th.
Diamond Head - KCC

10:30
Meeting at KCC (Kapiolani Community College)
MAP
11:00
Walk to diamond head and up.

2:30
KCC training until we get sick of it.

We might finish at crown wells for some swimming and diving.

Notes: There is a slight possibility we can get kicked out of KCC. There is a spot near, not the best but almost the only walking option. We can always drive somewhere else.

Monday the 25th
The log - Beach, diving, small hiking.

10:30
Meeting at parking lot.

11:00
Natural Conditioning Session

Some small hiking, exploration and fun diving/flipping off of the log.

2:30
Sandys Beach (optional)

More beach fun, relaxing, flipping, or just enjoying Hawaii.

Notes: Sunblock optional, water a must. "The Log" is a secluded beach, no place for buying snacks for a few miles. Come prepared. Also, the sand at "The Log" can get pretty hot, sandals, flip flops, five fingers or any other beach footwear is recommended. The water is very clear and we will be doing some underwater conditioning, goggles and snorkel will make you experience the beauty much up close.

Overall notes.

It is going to be rainy season in Hawaii, hopefully that week we'll get a break. In the event, we just need to adapt and go with it. Hikes could be canceled due to weather.

If you are doing the hikes with us, you need to be aware of this Leptospirosis

Things recommended to bring.

Wraps(for any joint injuries that might happen)
Band aids
Antibacterial soap
Athletic tape.
Sun block.
Goggles/snorkel
Camera

P.S. We need to fit an acai bowl session somewhere in there!!!!!
