Weekly Girl's Jams in Rochester, NY
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:23:28 PM »
For a long time I have considered holding a girl's jam in Rochester and with so much female interest I knew it was time to make it happen!

I am now holding weekly girl's jams in Manhattan Square Park starting this Saturday the 19th at 12 noon. We will have two and a half hours to warm up, train, and get to know one another before the guys show up at 2:30. I think that coming earlier is a more manageable option then setting up another day in the week since we already set aside Saturday for parkour.

I am a firm believer that it is important to learn parkour as a community regardless of gender, but I also feel that having something in common can only strengthen friendships and then the community in turn.  Meeting earlier on Saturday will allow us to bond as treceuses and still join up with the group afterward. This is also a great opportunity to bring any friends that have voiced interest in parkour but were uncomfortable starting up in a larger group.

The Rochester Parkour scene is alive and well and I welcome any traceuse (or traceur) to come visit some time, even if it's next spring.  :)

Contact me for more info about Rochester Parkour, women's jams, or for Rochester lodging... by e-mail at jessiekirkwood@gmail.com, by phone at 413-281-8516, or you can add me on Facebook (jlk5214@rit.edu). I hope to see Rochester ladies this Saturday at noon! Bring friends!

Jess, this sounds like an awesome idea! As soon as I get my driver's license, I'm there! I live two hours away in Ithaca.

YAY! :D Go, Rochester!

Let us know how they go! What a fantastic thing!

FYI... if you get stuck or need advice, hit up Janine from PNWPA. They do regular Ladies Jams up there and have for a while; she'll probably have some good advice if you need it.

Way to go! Keep up the great work!

as though there were some obstacle in the way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.

Yeah, that's a great idea. Meeting up before a jam starts to get to know each other. Hope all goes well with that!  :)
Training is not about instant gratification. Anyone looking for constant progress will not stick with training for long. The essence of training is the experience of the training, and what you learn about yourself through it.

Yay go RPK!   I love the idea about meeting up with the regular jam afterward, way to tie it all in together.  I fear sometimes that the ladies who come out to our local femme jams will end up not wanted to train in any other way, but to integrate a normal jam in right after the specialized jam looks like it would probably eliminate that problem in a comfortable way.  Nice one!

Thanks for the encouragement ladies!  There have been several jams so far and we have had a great time and learned a lot.  It has been great seeing girls come out of their shells and training without restraint.  One girl finally got her speed vault on the left side and another got safety vaults on both sides on her second day!  It has also been a great learning experience for me as a teacher, not to mention my own improvements with kongs and wall runs.  :)

Happy training!

Hi -

I am wondering if Rochester PK is still holding the weekly Ladies jams.  It is on the schedule at http://www.girlparkour.com/index.htm.  I'd like to take a trip sans kids from my b-day, which is in October, somewhere that may be having a women's seminar or ladies jam or something similar.

Yeah, I was also wondering if these were still being held. Obviously its December, but I don't live too far from Rochester and it would definitely be an awesome experience.
