Just some questions

Hey guys I am really new to parkour, and I am wondering a few things. First I would love to know if there are any people in or around the Dayton area who can teach me some stuff. Also, I would like to know if people ever have trouble finding good environments, basically how long did it take everyone to see their environment as anything else.

I am in need of some tutilage mentally and physically, I did martial arts for over four years so I am in fairly good shape.
Last question (for now) do you guys like walk around looking for stuff to run through or do you guys just go on a run and like just try to stay in like a general direction.

Hello and welcome!

1. I live in cincy, not too far from dayton. We jam every weekend down here, so if you can just let me know ahead of time and come down and jam. If not, I'm going to dayton next month.

2. Your enviroment question is good, At first it might not seem like theres anything good anywhere. Thats not the problem, you just dont know what is possible yet. As you progress more and more your eyes will open.

And for your last question. Right now, since your begining you need to learn the fundamentals. You also need to be confident and sure of your movements, so I wouldn't reccomend running around just yet. Find a few promising spots, drill technique and practice a lot, then eventually, you will be able to safely run using any movement you'd like.

Yeah he pretty much coverend a lot. For a good idea of training sessions etc. dl and listen well to U$F TV vol.3 on urbanfreeflow.com ok. From what I see here it might help you quite a bit k. Everytime you do something new and improove yourself you eyes will open more and more, even for objects that before you didn't see anything in, in some cases. Just have fun with pk and welcome.

Hey thanks for all of that info guys. :) anywhay when are you comming up to Dayton cuz i would love to ge some tips and stuff and have someone who knows more of what they are doing. Off Topic I got two of my other friends into Parkour and we are all really new to this so some seasoned advice and tips would be much appreciated.

Another Question how do you guys practice your turn vaults, i can't find any place where i can really practice them around my house.

Well this kind of how it works with the running thing.

When your training, you can train by running constantly for a little while then breaking, or you could just drill one obstacle, getting only enough run up to get to the speed you need.

When you are actually doing parkour, to evade/save/whatever else. You are most likely constantly running.

Thanks a lot guys. When I watch Parkour vids they are always running, so I wondered about that. I assume your most likely always running during a Jam then.

It greatly depends on the jam, how familiar people are with the terrain, the number of people, the skill levels of the participants and a few other things.
Heres my jam break down based apon the 4 jams I've been to
20% walking around scouting/familiarizing/being shown the favorites of the locals
70% drilling favorite spots/weak techniques
10%filiming cool 'runs'

Now if you kept jamming with the same core group of people who were familiar with the area and had similar skill levels you could concievably run for as long as your endurance could take you. But I think for the most part you spend the jam hammering out moves to string together.
All of the films you see online, aren't just 5 minutes of hard core PK, but rather entire afternoons spent getting film worthy  runs, or at the very least are mere snippets of a couple hours of footage cropped down to show the tricks the authors want to display for comments and  criticism.
