Favorite season to trace during?
« on: August 23, 2009, 08:54:31 AM »
I was just wondering what everyone'e favorite season is to train, and why. Personally I like fall the best.( Minus School) I like it because its not so hot you need to take a backpack full of water(personal experiance) but not so cold you need layers of clothes. Plus I can wear pants, jeans, and sweats.

Honestly, I only started parkour this summer, but from personal experience, summer can be pretty brutal. I'd have to guess, and say that Spring will probably be my favorite, just because it's still pretty cool, but not everything is frozen anymore, and towards the end, it gets warmer, but not so hot that you suffocate running around the block.

Same with Carissa. I re-started my training this Summer, and Spring will probably be best. Winter is too cold, and everything is frozen and nearly useless for training, but in Summer, the heat just kills you.

Being in Florida, Winter defiantly.

Haha, where I live we have two seasons pretty much Summer and Fall. Winter gets no snow and isnt that cold, and spring is nearly as hot as summer. Except at the start of it.

Idk what it is with me, but I LOVE training in the summer. Even down here in Florida haha. Something about the heat and being exhausted and hot makes me want to push myself.  ;D

Winter definitely, because then I can put my sweats to good use and break out the trusty hoodie and beanie ;D.

either winter or fall... Winter because you don't have to worry about heat stroke and the cold air just helps keep you moving, but fall because of how it looks...

Here in Georgia, fall has a certain... feel to it... like the game Half Life 2...  just... less aliens...  You have this sense of necessity for movement and that certain slight adrenaline pinch that you get from watching a cool video on YouTube...  just from walking outside of the house...  makes you want to scale the world itself simply because of the tone around you

I like doing it in the summer. we usually don't get really hot summers in the Chicago area, so its perfect for parkour. although I would love to do it in some really deep snow...

and I like your use of the word "trace" in the title. I don't think thats actually a word used to describe parkour, but its neat. maybe we can start a trend...
It's not about showing off. It's about movement and passion and freedom. It's about giving yourself the ability to reach farther and higher, to go anywhere you please. It's about living without boundaries.

Hear, hear!  I like that, too.  I have started to say "I traced..." several times and then stopped, afraid it would sound ignorant.  The verb for practicing parkour (I practice parkour... I jam... I train parkour... I train for parkour) has always seemed awkward to me.  I say we use "trace" as the verb for practicing parkour.

Yeah, I was going to say something about that word, too! I think it flows perfectly (pun intended xD)

& I've always been agitated that parkour has no verb equivalent.

We should start a trend. +1 to that

I'mma go ahead and agree with the team avian person and say fall or winter. That fall in georgia stuff was right on the spot too. And there's just such a great feel doing a vault with your hoodie on.

Well it's basically impossible to train outside in the harsh Minnesota winters and I just started parkour this Summer, so I would say Summer/Fall. Spring could be perfect but it can also get pretty muddy.
