parkour during scchool year
« on: August 22, 2009, 04:56:57 PM »
I started doing parkour just before school let out for summer (its about the only thing i did this summer). I was wondering if having to deal with a school year changed your doing parkour at all, like less often, or things you do differently during the school year (besides staring out the window wanting to just hop out).

I've started my fall classes last week. Thankfully it hasn't changed my routines other than I can't go out as much so I just do indoor conditioning
and if I jumped out of the window I would only fall about 12 inches lol.

My school schedule this year is totally hectic and chaotic. I'm a senior in high school, taking 5 college courses, so I know that I am going to spend four to six hours a night doing homework (just the way life is, sadly). However, I'm pretty good at waking up in the morning, so I'm trying to develop some semblence of a training schedule that involves:
Waking up about forty minutes before I normally would, to do general fitness, such as sit-ups, push-ups, wall sits, stretching, some weight training, etc. Just general conditioning in the morning.
Then after I get home from school I'm either going to do all my homework right away and try to train for a little while after I get done, but depending on the work load, that might not always be possible, so another option is simply to do two to three hours of homework, take a break, train for a little while, and then go back to doing homework after that. I'm not sure how it will all work out yet, but hopefully I can balance both. Good luck to you!

Mmm training.

I only wish I could do some training without any injury complications.  Homework just gives me something to do in my spare time.  I do enjoy being busy :D

try adding school to a job to school, then you really have a lovely schedule.  Idk, if I can handle a 40 hour work week on top of a full course load (including an internship) and train 3-4 times a week with time to actually have a social life.... you bet your ass you can train and go to school.  Just stay focused and don't waste your time doing nothing.  Learning how to manage your time effectively is apart of growing up =).

Also,  I can't wait till next year. Appearently most of the high schoolers do free running/ parkour, and set up mats and what not in the gym. Thats gonna be sweet.

I'm also a senior in high school taking too many college courses... luckily, I wake up and drive to school about an hour before it starts and just train on the picnic tables...  and during school, I have Theater Tech (We build the sets and work the lights and sound for the plays...)  So, when there is nothing to build (Most of the time basically), I get to train in the theater... I also get to train on the actual stage sets...  I mean <.< uh...  Test them out... yea, because they must be sturdy enough for the actors and actresses...  we wouldn't want them to break the set if they just so happened to need to double kong now would we?

I practice a lot during the school year. I also taught my friends how to do basic wall-runs while we were just hanging around waiting for our parents to pick us up. It was pretty cool XD

School is really the only place I can practice in. Mom and Dad work so late, I don't really have anything else to do afterschool but practice  :D
