What is the highest gate, wall, whatever that you can monkey vault in relation to your height? I can monkey vault about to my waist i guess. I'm just starting, so i dont know what to expect to be able to do. what is possible? in working to get higher, is it more in the legs or arms/chest?

So far the highest I've gone is about a 8 inch higher than my waist. But I've seen people monkey/kong pretty high in relation to their height... like, collarbone high.

I can monkey about chin level, and the highest I can vault without tac-ing is the top of my head.

Comfortably? A bit below the waist, I suck at monkey vaults. EDIT: I jump before I put my hands on the obstacle, so it's more like a short kong I guess..

On a bar I've seen people do standing over head height, and myself after warming it up a bit can do standing as has as my nose, and running around head height without a tac, though doing it that high without a tac isn't the most useful thing I'd say, if you can use extra leverage why not use it.

I can monkey at about my mouth level. It's all about upper body and core, at that point. On a lower, waist high monkey, you can use your leg power to lift your hips up high enough to clear the obstacle. But once you start getting chest height and above, you really need to rely on your arms to support your weight, and your core to tuck the knees in and lift the hips behind you. It's all about rising the hips up, to give you enough room to pull your legs through the gap between your arms and the bar. Theoretically, with enough strength, and athlete could monkey anything he could reach.

My highest was around neck level. I NEARLY clipped, but made it. After a few tries, it was easy. I should try higher gradually.

Well to test this I found the highest object I could, which was this rail fence around nipple level (i'm 6'3 btw). I couldn't run and monkey it (probably because of mental block, but still trying )... so instead I just grabbed it, sqautted down, pulled up, and jumped over

I can easily do a monkey over something chest height. And struggle a bit with something shoulder height. It's all about pushing off with your feet and then pulling with your arms. Bring those knees in too For a more complicated discription of what I just said, refer to Adam's post: I can monkey at about my mouth level. It's all about upper body and core, at that point. On a lower, waist high monkey, you can use your leg power to lift your hips up high enough to clear the obstacle. But once you start getting chest height and above, you really need to rely on your arms to support your weight, and your core to tuck the knees in and lift the hips behind you. i tried a kong over an obstacle belly high, but i think it was more of a monkey vault but i did clear it, it was about 2 feet wide. what i noticed is that i dont have enough momentum for a kong, so i have to push with my arms, down and back.

Post some vids/pics, for all you folks saying you're monkeying collar-bone/shoulder high obstacles. I would be very interested in seeing that, cause that is some insane height for a monkey vault.
