I actually heart gimp. I used to use it for all the stuff Ps was too sophisticated for but now I pretty much just use Fw. Adobe is lose?

Not sure about the last one but the first two textures are pretty cool, man.

The last one is just a texture blurred, but thanks man. I was basically just messing around with the effects.

Well I downloaded GIMP as soon as I read this thread... I have to say I am quite impressed with the software. For free I think it could be just as good as photoshop... If you know how to use it...

DAMN! It won't let me upload my work... :( How do you guys upload them?

As far as I know, stuff like Gimp and Fireworks are more for content created from scratch, and Photoshop is more for photorealistic images. I haven't tried Gimp or Fireworks though.

Here's an apple I made  with PS:

And some artwork I made for the song Reckoner by Radiohead:

Thanks, but note that the image of the angels and stuff isn't original work, it's from a hundred-plus-year-old painting that I can't recall the name of, but it's in the public domain. I edited it a bit and added the text overlays, and burned it around the edges with a soft brush, and voila.

EDIT: Oh, found it, it's Paradiso Canto by uhhh.... someone.... Here's the original image:

EDIT AGAIN: And it's easy to upload images; just go to tinypic . com and upload whatever you want and then se the link it gives you. You don't need an account or anything.

When you save it, it saves the image as a project, and not an image file. Go into GIMP, open the image, then click File>Save As. Then when you get there, save the file as whatever name you had it before, but .jpg, .gif, .png, etc. Those are all image files. Then you'll be able to upload it and view it as an image.

Sweet. I hope this worked...
The image is from Mexico. In Tulum. It's the Cloverfield monster firing his laser while the power rangers appear atop of the ruins to fight it and the evil monkey is doing his whole evil pointing thing.... oh and there is a fire. OH and another thing. If you notice closely there are people in the left side of the picture...

Hey Drew, I believe he used photoshop for those pictures... But in GIMP you have to click the text icon then it should give you opportunities to edit it after you type in what you wanna write.

I have been playing around with GIMP and am getting quite good. I have finally learned how to change hair just right with the path selection tool. And I would like to know how you got this effect:
