Ariake review...for Mikes list
« on: August 08, 2009, 03:35:39 PM »
FIT:
I have only ever done parkour in one other pair of shoes (some generic brand) when i got my feet into the Ariakes it was a "breath of fresh air" the grip was on a whole other level, i could barely feel them on my feet, and well lets face it, they look pretty dang cool. I really can not complain about them

FLEXIBILITY:
These shoes flexibility are great, i use to role my ankle extremely often when i did parkour in my off brand sneakers, but now with the Ariakes my feet bend and move really well with them.

WEIGHT:
like i said in the first part of the review they are extremely light, i can barely feel them on my feet, they are really great.

GRIP:
since the Ariakes are designed for parkour and parkour-like activities you can imagine that they are going to handle the environment really well. Grass, dirt, cement, etc (all walking surfaces) are fine, your not going to slip. metal, brick, etc ( all landing surfaces) are equally good, i have not slipped yet for the year I have had them. As for wet cement, grass, brick, and dirt your going to be fine, i have had my fair share of inclement whether and they have never let me down on those surfaces. Finally wet metal such as rails, etc I have done countless rail precisions with them on in the rain, haven't slipped yet, I don't recommend doing rail precisions in the rain at all for that matter, i was just putting that out there to reassure people of how good the grip is.

BREATHABILITY:
For me the breath ability of these shoes is fine in comparison with my sneakers. My feet sweat a lot, that is just me. when i take off my sneakers my socks are so wet i have to ring them out  :-X but when i take the Ariakes off they are damp at best. That is the best comparison i can give for that, your not going to have oven potato feet if you wear these.

CUSHIONING:
I am going to make this short and sweet... the shoes are pretty even when it comes to cushioning. Its really funny because even though the cushioning is great, we as parkour practitioners shouldn't really need all that padding if where not jumping off buildings, etc like madmen. bottom line the padding is great, it goes very well with the flexibility of the shoe.

Durability
I have had the shoe for a little over a year there is still a whole lot of grip, and the shoe itself is holding together perfectly ( but that is what you would expect from a shoe anyway ) the only "problems" i found, (if you can even call them that) are that the aesthetics of the shoe like the color and the decoration on the top of the shoe ware out (after a year :P). Your not going to be disappointed with the ware and tare of these shoes.

Price
Ariakes are $100...i didn't actually buy my two pairs they where given to me. But if i didn't get that generous gift I definitely would have bought these, WORTH EVERY PENNY.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
??? what to say, what to say. These shoes are bad ass. Yes that sounds about right.

The Bottom Line:
I am so happy with these shoes, they look cool, feel great, serve there purpose and Seb designed them, you cant go wrong. To further illustrate my point I made this check list
  • Good Flexibility: Check
  • Good Weight: Check
  • Good Grip: Check
  • Good Breath Ability: Check
  • Good Cushioning: Check
  • Good Durability: Check

Pros: :D Absolutely everything, you can not go wrong with these bad boys.
Cons: >:( If your a sucker for the way shoes look these shoes color wears off as well as the design on the top of the shoe.
got Jesus?

I think that just gives more reason to give them a try. And that seems to be a good idea, considering that I heard they'll be discontinued. So you only have so much time if you want to try them.

Good review. You made them sound pretty good. I really wish I could find them in a store so I can see how they feel myself, which is important for me to choose a shoe. Too bad our discipline isn't big enough that stores would be so willing to sell them.

I will back the Ariakes as the best shoe I have ever used along with my New Balance 812's. I had no problem with Ariakes on anything. They never once failed me, even in a destroyed condition they never let me down. My Freerunner's however did all the time.

when you say in destroyed condition what do you mean by that? holes, rips, stuff like that? I also want to try the Freerunners v2

Like shoes almost disconnected from entire bottom of shoe. I'll get some pics later. They still worked in that condition in places the Freerunner's couldn't.

hmm the leather on the top of my ariakes have split all the way to the laces as if someone had taken a knife on both sides its so wierd >.<, i just crazy glued them back together and has worked good for last few months glued hahah
There is no reason to have a plan B, cause all it does is distract from plan A

Word. The one weakness of them is the durability, but they preform sooooo well even in the worst condition.
