ok i think we have a song
« on: August 04, 2009, 10:20:02 PM »
ok so i dont know if anyone has all ready suggested that this be a parkour song but when ever me and my friends go out we bring a big sound system and play "rooftops (a liberation broadcast)" by Lostprophets as loud as we can, its become popular out here in washington and i have heard other freerunners playing it. it would be cool if we could get a song recognized as a parkour song world wide, every other sport has its own song, im not saying its just a sport but it is something active that many MANY people are starting to do, so if you want to help this along please play it if you ever have the chance, if enuff people start to do it we can organize a day to do it nation, even world wide, just an idea, let me know your opinions okay
its not about showing off, its about living without restrictions, without fear or hesitation, without boundaries, they say heaven is a place, its not, it is what ever truly makes you feel alive, to break out of the norm, to be free, to live, life can find you anywhere, of this i am certain, so live.

Honestly, traceurs don't need a song. We make statements with our movements, not a set of lyrics.

i am just hoping that it can get recognized as something other than "teenagers goofing off" because in my state it is very illegal, and few things bring people together like a song, i speak from experiance, like u said people need to participate right, if it gets made legal then i bet more people out here would do it, those who were timid about "breaking the law" im just saying thats all, anyway thanks for the opinion

Well, it probably will never get recognized as anything more, sadly. Unless it becomes very, very mainstream.

ya ur right and if it ever gets that mainstream it will lose its appeal for me and many many other people, well running away from cops is a good way to train at least

No offense, but that was the WORST possible thing to say. Its bad enough that most officers think that we're trouble makers. If people who weren't really attuned to the discipline started using parkour as a way to escape authorities, then I'll bet you my entire life's savings that parkour will become insta-banned everywhere.

I don't think it's a bad idea. Stop bringin' the guy down with philosophy and whatnot. Stop being so pessimistic.

I don't know about it becoming the song for traceurs (other sports have songs? >.>), but if the song's good enough I'll play it once in a while.

Although I don't think it's a bad idea at all, I feel like actions speak louder than any song ever could. Our programs like Leave No Trace show the true character of traceurs and traceuses. John Conway recently posted that he fixed a broken rail at the place he trains. Actions like this set a great example for the rest of us. We should always be respectful to people and the places we train. Before you train, pick up the trash in the area. Something broken in the area? Try to fix it, and if you can't, let someone know that it's broken. Hand out pamphlets when people see you picking up trash. I think this works much better than a song.

I'd prefer

It's Not My Time - 3 Doors Down

but that would be simply because of the video...

Or Jump by Madona... but again, that'd be because of the video...

However, I don't think 1 single song could sum up Parkour, unless it was a collaborative effort by every Traceur in the world...

i dont think there is a song that could sum up parkour but some things can get close, i just use rooftops when i jam and it kinda spread around a bit it was just a suggestion, and cops arrest parkour practitioners out here anyway so running away is a good alternative to jail im just saying, plus its mad fun :)

How can they arrest you? On what charges? Have you looked up legalities and such?  There is no law against anything that you do... as long as you do it legally... I could see them arresting you if you were scaling a Church or something...  Where do you practice and do you have permission?

it is a trumped up charge of trespassing and disturbing the peace, out here pretty much everything above ground level is private property, and over in seattle they are installing all of these massive thin spikes on top of all the good grabbing surfaces and the sides of buildings are also starting to get them all over the cities around me

You should not be on rooftops especially if you don't have permission to be there.  Its people like you are giving parkour a bad image by doing illegal stuff and using parkour as an excuse.

This is absurd, you should find people to go to the city council about it. There's no way spiked buildings are safe.

it was my friend chris that found the spikes, ripped right thru his hand no joke, they are called "pigeon deterrents" but if they are then those things will gut a bird and why r they only on high rails and building rims, and david belle does a lot of building jumping so i dont care if im on a building its perfectly legal in europe but america is all pissy about it

David Belle is legally permitted to do so. I guarantee that before all of his filming they asked for permission. You on the other hand, do not ask permission. You climb on private property, so legally, they can charge you with trespassing if they want. And please, do not run from the police. Be respectful.

ya going to ask permission is not an option because i have tried, they say that if i hurt myself they are afraid that i will try to sue them, they wont believe that i wont, so ya i do it anyway, rarely do i climb up a building but it doesnt matter if i do or not, they see one of us out here and they go after us, we are not doing anything illegal like defacing property and we even leave no trace by cleaning but they just dont care i do not appreciate being judged by someone who does not fully understand the situation, poke questions sure but judge me no okay, thank you your opinions are still valued

If you do not have permission to be on the property then DO NOT train there. If you are on their property without permission then you are doing something illegal. It doesn't matter if you only had good intentions. You are trespassing and you can be charged.

What you could try is to make some sort of waiver that you could sign, which states that in the case of an accident you will not hold them responsible.
